2023 Dead Pool

I know I’m supposed to reply with something about hanging an onion from my belt but my TV is never loud enough for me to make out the quote clearly.

…which was the style at the time.

Drinks that get you drunk from the feet up are dangerous.

Dude. I’m sure that you know that I can drink an unlimited number of, say, Miller Lites, and it would take quite some time for me to feel an incipient level of inebriation. If I drank three or four Miller Lites, I mean, that’s meaningless. I drank a few of these newfangled “IPAs” and next thing I know I’m damn near ass over teakettle.

By the way, I lived in Williamsburg, the center of the hipster universe. If you didn’t drink India Pale Ale and have an onion on your person somewhere or another they would run you right out of the neighborhood.

I lovvvvvvvve Cherry Wheat, but cannot find it so easily anymore.
Curse you, Sam Adams.

Devils Backbone is one of my favorites. Along with Shiner Black Lager.

Real’s Coffee Porter and Devil’s Backbone are proper Texas cold weather beers

And Shiner Black is better than Shiner Bock in any weather conditions

Which I’m drinking currently.

It’s fantastic.

I used to like Sam Adams Winter Lager but it seems they have changed their lineup. Anything I should know about “Cold Snap” etc?

Basically all I drink anymore, besides wine, the very occasional Bulleit rye and slightly less occasional Drambuie, is IPA. Founders All Day and Chill Haze are terrific, but—besides the standard Pale—Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing is the greatest beer known to man.

I’m Bulleit Rye and Founders too. Not necessarily in that order.

St Arnold seems to be IPA central even offering IPA water:

Hop Spring

Non-Alcoholic, Gluten Free

An alcohol free hoppy sparkling water with zero calories. Citra and Amarillo hops lend floral aromas, along with notes of grapefruit and fresh orange zest. Bright, zesty carbonation highlights the citrus notes and complements a soft hop profile that’s never bitter.

My gotos are Guinness, Lawnmower and Love Street.

I like Porters but that is something I can only drink one of. Maybe two.

On a somewhat unrelated topic, the wife and I drove the Devil’s Backbone last fall to Wimberley. Very scenic.

I keep Bulleit Rye around for Manhattans. Or just neat.

I have no idea if the Tavern is still in business but I’m reminded of the Todd Snider song every time I’m driving around that area

Hillman played in Temple, Texas of all places in a small auditorium that was 2/3 empty. I enjoyed it.
Hillman, McGuinn and Marty Stuart did a Sweetheart Of The Rodeo tour a couple of years ago.
I didn’t make it but it’s on YouTube.
