Hopefully it is Aledmys tomorrow for Jake instead of JJ

That makes a little less sense - if it’s two games difference, why not call up Yainer first and give yourself the option on him if something happens to one of your catchers?

Who knows? I also wonder what moves would be made before 31st to add Hunter and maybe Diaz to 40man so they would be avail for postseason. DFA Goodrum? And?

And does Josh James get added back to the 40man once his rehab stint is over? So many questions.

But there’s nothing out there is to suggest that Aledmys is that close to returning. Or am I wrong?

JJ can play the outfield just fine. MM’s point is valid, though. Presumably they didn’t want to lose anyone from the 40-man.

Wishful thinking, I guess. Chandler Rome said JJ was headed to Arlington.

Well Rome in both that tweet you posted and in a related article at Chron.com (see below) reiterated that neither are coming up until Sep. 1st. McTaggart is also reporting the same. And unless their reporting is wrong you’re right that neither would be eligible for postseason play. As far as postseason eligibility this is what the rules say…

3. All other players on a club’s MLB Reserve List (40-man roster), MLB 60-day Injured List, and Military List prior to midnight (Eastern) on August 31st are automatically placed on a club’s Post-Season Eligibility List and are eligible to be included on a post-season series Active List (25-man roster), but a player on an MLB 60-day Injured List who otherwise would be eligible to be included on a Post-Season Eligibility List is NOT eligible to be included until the player has spent at least 60 days on the Injured List, and a player on the MLB 60-day Injured List is NOT eligible to play in a post-season series until the player has spent at least 60 days on the Injured List AND the player has been reinstated from the 60-day Injured List.

So recapping (kind of)…

  1. Matijevic is eligible for the postseason roster (actually he would have been anyway even if he hadn’t been added to the active roster)

  2. Meyers and Korey Lee (despite being in the minors) are eligible for the postseason roster

  3. Brown and Y. Diaz are NOT eligible for the postseason roster

And before someone brings it up there is this injury exception as far as postseason eligibility…

7. An injured post-season eligible player can (with the approval of the MLB Commissioner) be replaced on his club’s Post-Season Eligibility List by a player (regardless of position) who was on an Active List, Reserve List, 60-day Injured List, or Military List of a minor league affiliate from that organization prior to midnight (Eastern) on August 31st, or by a player who was on the club’s MLB Reserve List (40-man roster), MLB 60-day Injured List, or Military List prior to midnight (Eastern) on August 31st but who was subsequently sent outright to the minors. (In the case of a player who is sent outright to the minors after August 31st, the player must remain on a Reserve List of a minor league affiliate from that organization continuously throughout the remainder of the MLB regular season and post-season in order to be eligible to replace an injured post-season eligible player).

The way I read the above either Lee or Y. Diaz could be a replacement if Maldonado or Vazquez went down with injury in the playoffs. That’s the only route for Y. Diaz to sniff any portion of the postseason.

The ravings of an idiot.

They only have to be added to fhe 40man by the end of 8/31, they don’t have to be on the 26 before then to be eligible.

As I just posted… prior to midnight (Eastern) on August 31st

As long as you don’t answer yourself I won’t worry about you.

I do that out loud at home or in my car.

I just berate myself.

I do occasionally when I do something stupid, but I usually only have conversations with me or Kaiser.

That’s a constant in my head

@austro, @MM, it’s the classic high performers paradox where high performers typically berate themselves (negative self-talk) and low performers typically validate themselves through positive self-talk about themselves.

The science is interesting:

I must be a very low performer. Oh, well.
