2022 roster

If you can dodge a wrench…

I too am a fan of Jones.

He was just coming into his own last year when he got hurt ( sick?) and now injured when some opportunity was there and Perez and Matijevic got the call instead.

I hope he can get himself healthy and give the team a reason to consider him.

I was just curious about Alvarez and 1B because it seems like we would have heard something if he is considered. And I haven’t. Maybe some of you have?

Alvarez played some 1B in RR and did fine. I agree with HH: he is an decent LFer, and he can play 1B adequately if they ask.

Yuli has been lobbying to stay with another extension, but he needs to start hitting again to make that an option.

I have not heard anything, which tells me they are not actively searching for Yuli’s replacement yet. That may change as the season wears on. I would think Alvarez would definitely be in the conversation.

As of this morning Yuli was tied for the most doubles in MLB. He lead the league in hitting last year. I think his hitting will come around.

As I said I’m not one worried about Yuli.

I completely expect him to hit .280+ with 40+ doubles. But I don’t expect 25+ Homer’s or 100+rbi

To me he looks more like a #2 or #7 hitter than a #5 hitter.

Out of everyone in house (Jones, Matijevic, Alvarez, etc.), I would think Joe Perez is the most likely candidate to replace Yuli.

I thought so too

But he isn’t even at AAA yet, has not even played any 1B and is hitting under .200 with .555 OPS and 17 K in 51 AB IN AA

He may be most likely to play the most games over the next 5 seasons but I would bet on 1 of Matijevic or Jones for 2023.

Not much of a hitter, has played SS/2B/CF and a little 3B in his career.

I hope this isn’t because of the Pena injury.

Of course it is.

Hopefully just insurance.

For what it’s worth, seeing comments from Giants fans who are not happy with this deal. Dubon seems to be well liked by the Giants fan base. He’s a solid defender in the field snd they seem to be sad he’s gone.

Yeah, your probably right, but it could also have something to do with the fact that both Diaz and Goodrum….well….stink.

Not even close to correct. Peña and Altuve have injuries. This trade is because of that.

I’m afraid you are right, Jim

Dubon was a hotshot that a few people thought might cause the Giants to move on from Crawford not too long ago.

As long as Pena and Altuve don’t miss more than a few weeks then the team will be fine and it’s a quality pickup from a position of strength.

As much as anything it shows what the organization thinks of guys like Barrero, De Goti, Hensley, and even Goodrum.

He is a ,258 MLB lifetime hitter thus far. To guys who like to say MLB players “suck,” I’ll say ,258 is not sucking.

Agreed.

He’s not a star.

But Diaz is a FA after this year.

He plays almost every position, has a career 2.2 WAR over about a season (524) of plate appearances.

And he is under team control until 2026.

Great trade in my opinion even if Altuve/Pena aren’t ( weren’t?) hurt.

Now we wait for the hammer to fall

What is the roster move?

I agree. I have liked Papierski since I saw him at LSU, but he has not exactly been on the fast track. And the cast of thousands rotating through IF positions in AAA & AA is underwhelming.
