Actually, they optioned Perez to clear the way for Alvarez to return to the active roster and put Lance on the 60-day to clear room in the 40-man for Mushinski.
I noticed the move was not retroactive.
I don’t know the rules for that.
Is he required to stay on the IL for 60 days from today?
60 days from his initial day on 10 day IL ( 4/7)
Can they still retroactive it earlier since he was hurt all of spring training?
The move itself doesn’t surprise or worry me. But why now and not when they needed to put Ivey on waivers?
He is not even throwing from a mound yet so is still weeks away.
As long as he is ready by the all star break then the team is in good shape.

I think he can come off 60 days after 4/7
Nobody is actually be on the IL until opening day, so no thats the farthest back it can be retroactive
I feel for Baez but this was long overdue.
More like Pedro Bye-ez, amirite???
Click said the Astros pored over data and video to find out why Báez lost his velocity, but said it was the pitcher’s lack of effort. He was signed to a two-year, $12.5 million deal with a $7 million buyout and wound up throwing 6 2/3 innings.
What was it???
I could do that.
Narrator: He could NOT do that.
Ok, I figured there was absolutely no way Click was kicking a guy like that on his way out.
So what effort is he talking about?
Baez’ effort to regain his velocity.
I guess it was an unsuccessful effort rather than a lack of effort? Still seems like an unfortunate word choice.
The word NOT was omitted.
It was not a lack of effort
Oh! That makes a lot more sense now. I thought the correction was an elaboration. Thanks.
I am very ( pleasantly) surprised by how often Alvarez has been in LF and Brantley DHing.
I wonder if they have completely given up on him at 1B?
I’m not one of those crying to kick Yuli to the curb, but he isn’t under contract for next year.
Based on the usual versatility philosophy it seems like Yordan would have played some first by now unless he just can’t be passable.
If you can play LF, you can play 1B. And Alvarez is a perfectly fine LFer. Who’s going to play 1B next year is the least of the concerns right now. And I’m kind of a fan of Taylor Jones, if he can come back healthy. Lots of time to figure Yuli’s replacement.
