Martes was released today.
What an amazing fall from grace for him. Stories like his dumbfound me.
He had plenty of arm talent thatās for sure
So with Martes gone, there are no remaining pieces of the trade that brought him to the Astros.
From that deal, the Astros gave the Marlins Jarred Cosart & Kike Hernandez and got:
Colin Moran - traded to Pirates as part of the Cole trade
Jake Marisnick - traded to Mets for Blake Taylor and Minor leaguer
Comp Balance pick used to pick Daz Cameron - traded to Tigers in Verlander trade.
Martes - released
Solid trade for the Astros

Luhnow really flopped his dick all over the Marlins in that deal. Moran was what, the second biggest piece of that Cole deal? Cameron was definitely the second biggest piece in the Verlander deal. Marisnick by himself makes that trade worth it. And Martes while obviously a bust since he was the real āprizeā of the deal if I remember correctly, definitely showed promise but bad luck and stupidity killed him.

Last night was Javierās first appearance in 10 days.
I donāt know if we file that under āneeds more workā or āweāve seen enoughā.
Either way, if thereās a postseason roster wonder if heās on it.
My guess is no, but there are times when he is spectacularly good. I think he will be back as a starter or traded next year.
So Martes was the corresponding 40 man move for Marwin?
Guess he could replace Grienke in the rotation next season.
And I guess that raises a lot of other questions.
He has to earn a spot by pitching well, IMO.

Of course. He must do something positive with his big arm. Abreu and Paredes too.
