I was playing poker and made point of losing half my money. I cant play poker, and it is not your usual game. Called dad to pick me up. They were having a super bowl party at the house. He was kinda pissed. But after stopping to pick me up at the volunteer firehouse. He undestood.
Interesting.
Make no sense to me why there would be a correlation, but as you say, it is interesting.
Perhaps he feels more engaged in the game when heâs playing in the field too.
I think he probably does, but why does that make him hit better? âTis a mystery.
My gut tells me this is a fairly common thing. I think Gattis had pretty drastic splits, too, maybe?
He did. Hit measurably better when catching than when DHing.
Just anecdotal, but I always felt like I wasnât really in the game if I wasnât playing defense. Granted, I never played at that level and on that every day frequency, but Iâd rather play defense than hit. It doesnât surprise me that some guys show this split, though like Jim, I canât really explain why. Just one of them things.
Perhaps oneâs focus and concentration are better when playing in the field every inning rather than being in the game only every 3 innings or so when the DH hits.
I think you are right.
It falls along with the theory of continuity of engagement.
Over the years Iâve read or heard many players talk about the difficulty of DH-ing versus playing and being both a part of the lineup and taking a position in the field. The biggest take away from what I remember was that many felt like it put more pressure on them to perform because they didnât have a way to help the team on the field if they had a bad AB.
Or just staying warm and loose from moving around, and not sitting on his ass for 45 minutes between ABs.
Probably some of column A, some of column B.
Yes.
Kinda like having to wake up from a nap and grab a batâŠ

The Indians game today combined a blowout w/ a potential perfect game. Something made folks tune in during around the 8th inning.
I am old school: as much as I hate seeing a hapless pitcher waste an AB, I enjoy seeing Yordan honor the game as well as his God-given talents by becoming a real player rather than just a DHâŠ

Honestly I think Jordan should have just stuck to basketball but Iâm not sure why weâre talking about him here. Good 30 for 30 I guess but thatâs really Jordanâs only contribution to baseball.
His corrected post is just plain stupid.

His corrected post is just plain stupid.
Coach, you must really be BORED to not be able to resist reading my âstupidâ post.
Here is a Readers Digest version:
Snuffy HATES the DH, even tho it means watching pitchers swing at pitches like girls, but enjoys watching YORDAN become a complete player.
(He loves seeing the Astros use the DH to ârestâ REAL players/regulars rather than having knuckle draggers (SP) that can only swing a club - and donât own and canât use a glove.)
OK, itâs not actually a shorter version⊠(Just ignore it.)
Even stupider. A DH is not a real player, does not own a glove, and cannot use one either. Really?
Read more, post less. OWA mantra.
