Which is why I was saying I was reassured to hear your more experienced opinion.
I think Iād feel more comfortable with him playing 1st than in the outfield.
The most recent report I could find about Yordan playing first baseā¦
Summary
When speaking to reporters on Saturday, bench coach Joe Espada, who works with the infielders, said he would like to get Alvarez some reps at first in workouts to see how it looks. Weāll see if anything of consequence comes of this experiment. The Astros tried Alvarez at first base when he was in the minors and decided he didnāt take well to the position. They viewed him as better in left field than at first base, and heās not particularly good in left field. Itās difficult to find a reason to expect a different outcome for the first-base experiment now, when Alvarez would presumably be tasked with catching 95 mph bullets from Carlos Correa.

Actually Chandler Rome repeats the same narrative in todayās Chronā¦
Summary
Alvarez could play some first base later in the season, Baker revealed, in an effort to spell 36-year-old Yuli Gurriel. The Astros intended to work Alvarez at first base in spring training, but a slow ramp-up from surgery scratched the plans. Alvarez is far more adept in left field ā and itās where the Astros may need him most. When Michael Brantley returns from the injured list, the Astros will have to be mindful of his age and lengthy injury history that predates his Houston tenure.
Be a very very very very very bad kisser.
āSkill set to play first baseā
Interesting.
Well, letās see. Can he field a ground ball?
Can he catch a pop up? (Sorry, Taylor)
Can he catch a thrown ball?
Yep! He is ready!
Inability to catch a ground ball. Inability to catch a thrown ball, especially one that bounces.
Back in the day, kissing meant you were in scoring position.
I think messing up the footwork is a big part of bad 1st base play.
Iām anxious to see what Martes does. I thought he looked pretty damn good in spring training. He could end up being the unexpected addition to the bullpen that we need. Letās see how he does.

Not an auspicious start: his first 4 appearances thus far for the Skeeters has yielded 7 hits and 8 walks in just 3 1/3 innings.
I guess technically he settled down a little?

I wasnāt sure which thread to put this
The Astros now have the best record in the AL.
We could also be better. Imagine what a healthy Verlander, lockdown closer/setup guy and AJ Hinch could do for this team.
Makes me think how great the Dodgers must have been in 2017 to overcome Dustyās managing.

We all knew this was coming, but there will be quite the roster crunch in the next few weeks.
The 40 man roster is full and it looks like 2 pitcherās from the 60 day IL should be ready to be activated in the coming weeks.
My guess is they can move Diaz to the 60 for 1 spot.
Then ( unless another serious injury - knock on wood) they would need to figure out something to open the other spot- either trade or DFA someone or move Whitley to the 60.
I do not see them moving Whitley to the 60.
Can we still trade Whitley for Realmuto in 2018 or is that window closed?
I do not see them moving Whitley to the 60.
Whatās the issue with moving Whitley to the 60-day IL? The best case scenario for his return from TJ surgery is like, middle of next year, right?
I do not see them moving Whitley to the 60.
Why would they not move Whitley to the 60 day if necessary? Is there some disadvantage to the 60-day Iām forgetting about? Isnāt he done for the year?
