2021 roster

Not to compare myself to Framber or anything, but I tore the meniscus in my knee in two places while I was scooping cat shit at the cat shelter, but I still managed to finish Peaches’ litterbox and the rest of the cages in the room. And Peaches is diabetic so she pees a LOT.

Sometimes in the heat of the moment we just don’t notice the wounds.

I think we are just scratching the surface on this story. What’s the real scoop?

Sadly, no happy ending.

It was a career-ending injury.

I mean, I can still do amateur work at home with my family cats, but I’ll never scoop professionally again.

I have not seen anything definitive, but others might know. Sounds like it’s more serious than simply healing up for a few weeks.

Possibly a spiral break, maybe? Those always take for-fucking-ever to heal.

I had no idea I had torn my rotator cuff scooping a clump of Doodle’s pee that was the size of a small watermelon. That cat can go!

Oh man, a diabetic cat’s sticky urine + cat litter = concrete. Plastic scoops are no match. Nor apparently, are rotator cuffs.

I believe that’s how Larry Walker earned his nickname also.

I broke my glove hand blocking the plate in slow-pitch softball; finished that inning and batted in our half before realizing I could not get my glove back on. My hand is still deformed and that was 30+ years ago. I too can understand not recognizing the severity of an injury like that at the time.

Yeah, I’m probably not that tough but I don’t think it’s a weird point, either.

The competition for the 4th outfield spot is a race to the bottom currently:

Chas McCormick (2-15, 6 Ks)
Steven Souza (1-16, 10 Ks)

Future Waiver Claim Guy may have the inside track for the position.

Souza would have to be added to the 40 man so he loses any tiebreaker

Getting the impression from listening to the radio broadcast today is that of the players currently in camp Jose Siri is perhaps ahead of McCormick and Souza in the race for that 4th OF slot. Reason being for his superior defensive play in CF. Offense remains highly suspect as it always has been throughout his minor league career (almost the entirety of which has been at AA and below).

Siri (6-23, 9 Ks)
McCormick (2-21, 10 Ks)
Souza (2-21, 13 Ks)

Like Souza, Siri would need to be added to the 40-man roster.

ETA:
This article just published in the Chron says the Astros view Siri’s CF defense as above average to elite. Also says FWIW that “his average exit velocity on balls in play is among the highest of any Astro in camp”.

Cishek making it difficult on Click. Since that initial outing when he gave up 3 HRs, over his last 5 appearances: 5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K.

Those last 5 appearances should account for a helluva lot more than the first one of the spring. That’s pretty impressive.

Including today this is the 6th game in a row that Altuve has hit leadoff when he’s been in the lineup. Jake Kaplan says it’s “pretty obvious” that he is Dusty Baker’s choice to be the leadoff man going forward.

Usually your leadoff hitter possesses some semblance of bat control. We have really no other choice

Not gonna try and parse the differences among the three sources but Spotrac ($204MM) and Cot’s Contracts ($203.6MM) do have slightly lower CBT payrolls for the Astros compared to Roster Resources. If you believe the first two are more accurate then that certainly ups the odds for say Cishek to make the roster. As an NRI he still would need to be added to the 40-man so that potential complication remains.

I have followed little of ST, have Altuve’s throws to 1B been an issue?

I have not seen or heard, and I’m guessing that if they’d been an issue it would have been news. I’m thinking no news is good news on that front. But I don’t know for sure either.
