One of the most surprising finales in TV history
That was the snow globe, right? I think my favorite ending still belongs to Newhart.
Great cast: Denzel Washington, Anthony Edwards, Howie Mandel, Mark Harmon, Ed Begley Jr, David Morse, Ed Flanders and many more.
The only shows I remember my dad being excited about watching were Hill Street and St. Elsewhere.
I still crack up at Dr Craig (William Daniels) head butting Erlich (EB Jr) across the OR table.
I loved Hill Street Blues also.
Hill Street was big in our house growing up as well.
First time I remember seeing Norman Lloyd was in Dead Poetâs Society. My dad told me all about him and we watched A Walk in the Sun not long after.
Man, I hated that movie (Dead Poetâs Society) and turned it off before it ended. The kidâs suicide tore me up.
Iâm with you on this one â the title and cast had me all ready for a blockbuster, but it fell flat. I had forgotten how bad it was (and how disappointed I was) until this thread.
My comment is not about the quality of the movie; it was nominated for and won awards. My comment was limited to the scene in which a student, under intense pressure from his overbearing father to be something he did not want to be, ended his life by suicide.
Mark was 10 when the movie came out and still was very much influenced by me. Being a good father to him and to his sister mattered a great deal to me, and seeing the destructive power of a bad father upset me and disturbed me, even though it was only a movie. I turned the movie off abruptly and vowed once more to be the best father I could be.
I was not giving some sort of intellectual review of a movie. The kidâs suicide and his fatherâs directly causing his sonâs death greatly disturbed me as I was doing OJT being a dad.
I understand. I was only responding to the âgreat movie that won awardsâ aspect of the post.
Did not say âgreat.â Said only it was nominated for and won awards, which it did. Robin Williamsâ performance was widely hailed as excellent.
Iâm so sorry for your loss, austro. Iâll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Hate seeing this thread bumped
Grodin was awesome.
Cue another round of Midnight Run lines.
Truly a unique comic actor. Iâll miss him. I think Iâll take this opportunity to finally get around to watching Beethoven, which I recently learned was apparently ghostwritten by Tom Stoppard, one of the most intellectually lofty playwrights of the last two centuries.
He could play the too tied to fight it but put-out participant in an interview or conversation so well.
He and DeNiro were so perfect in their roles in Midnight Run.
RIP, Duke.
Yeah? Well here comes two words for youâŚshut the fuck up.
RIP.
These things go down! These things go down! Itâs too big!
