PeƱa should have dived to knock the ball down, but I strongly believe Bregman should have made the third out on that play.

I had to watch the replay 3 times to figure out where the 2B was.
When he threw to second I initially was like āoh shit, beat the throw!ā and then it was to nobody.
On replay, I was really curious about what had happened, so I was watching. He never even broke toward the bag, not that he wouldāve been able to get there in time anyway.
Interesting breakdown from Mark DeRosa. In particular, the last two minutes where he talks about the last play of the game and the Yankeesā defensive alignment. Makes the point that walking Alvarez sets up the ol āforce at any baseā, but then then they align defensively to take away any force opportunity at 2B, 3B or HP. You get a ground ball on the infield and nowhere to throw it for an out.
