I was sure I was going to see “IT’S A SHIFT!” there.

That is interesting, but a little misleading as well. The placement of the ground ball worked out about as well as it could’ve since it was far enough over in the hole that their 3B felt like he needed to try for it. Otherwise, it’s probably a quick flip to 3rd for the out. Honestly, a little karmic make-up for the 2nd run they scored in the 9th.

Now, playing with your 2B in shallow right… That don’t make no sense at all.

Excellent point. People outsmart themselves sometimes.

True, the location was a bit fortuitous for the Astros. And hindsight and all. But the Yankees took themselves out of a chance to get a ground ball out at pretty much anywhere other than 1B. Maybe it’s a gamble they’d take again, but it bit them in the ass here.
