World Series Game 6: Astros vs. Everyone and the Void

Thanks, guys and gals. OWA is great!

There are 28 teams out there wishing they’d lost the World Series. Disappointment sucks. But hope will spring eternal again in five months.

It sucks losing to the Braves but this wasn’t as painful as 2019. Our pitching staff did an excellent job. We were not trotting Verlander, Cole, or a healthy Greinke out there to pitch. They really did a great job in Atlanta. The big letdown was our offense. If our team hits like they are capable of doing, we win all 3 of those games. Altuve has got to find his 2017 self with hitting to all fields. He has turned into a pulling machine. It seems like as Altuve goes, so does this team. Correa did not play like a $300mm player. Big question marks this off season.

This. I know the Braves were once our hated rivals, but this year, I would rather lose to them than to the Dodgers.

Altuve was not the problem. The problem was Bregman, Alvarez, Gurriel, and Tucker.

Altuve drove in as many runs as those guys combined, not to mention scoring 6 of the Astros’ 18 runs

Yes, Bregman, Alvarez, Gurriel and Tucker were all certainly problems. Especially Bregman in particular. Very disappointing. Altuve hit .125 with a .214 on base percentage in the ALCS and .222 with a .250 on base percentage in the World Series. Altuve had 2 RBI’s in the World Series thanks to 2 solo home runs. When Jose got hits in the playoffs this year they were big ones for sure. But we really need him on base a lot more than that.

Come on man.

This is why I’ve really appreciated Archbishop Deshaies’s extreme trolling on Twitter. He’s leaned into it like few others.

Well, the sun came up this morning, although I do not know why. I do not know when I have been as disappointed in the Astros. 2019 was devastating; last night’s offensive funk was predictable in the context of how this WS went, but I really hoped they had switched the offense back on during Game Five. Mark and I did a post-mortem after we got back to the room, and we agreed we’ll still have a good team, even without Correa, but we must resign Stanek and Graveman and get some starting pitching. Outside of McCullers, there is no consistency. Goodbye Brent Strom, and thank you.

First thing I read this morning was Crane’s comment about extending Dusty. I saw nothing about Correa. The ball is in your court, Mr. Owner. If Correa spurns a legitimate, competitive offer, I will be grateful for what he did for the team, but he will be as dead to me as Cole and Springer are.

The better team on the field won this WS, and that is what is so disappointing. The Braves pitched well, made the plays, and got big hits when they mattered. On our side, only the bullpen stepped up. The others merely watched the very winnable WS slip away.

I’ve really enjoyed his fine work too.

It was there for the taking.

They passed.

The Astros bullpen really was amazing.

They’re the only reason this thing went 6.

And to think that they were a problem early in the season. Click did a great job going out and getting some good arms for us. I hope we can keep Graveman around.

I don’t even know what to say or think yet, the sun has not come out, it’s fittingly grey, rainy and dreary

People need something to boo, to hate. It’s in our DNA. We need to feel better than the next guy. I think the Astros will be off the hook only when another team does something worse.

Yeah it’s 46 degrees, dark and rainy here.

Fits the mood.

Wow. I don’t know if this is even a top 5 disappointment for me. 1998, 2004, 2005, 2018, and 2019 were all bigger gut punches.

I might get over 1980 and 1986 before I die. Maybe.

1986 for me, then 1980. 1998 is in there too, but 2019 tops them all.

I wasn’t alive in 1980 and wasn’t yet a fan in 1986. I suppose 1998 is the closest equivalent for me.
