Unwritten rules

Oh it’s getting good:

To me (and my teams), run on and off the field, no matter the score, was a written rule. I would stop practice and require a do-over if players were not running when we changed sides during an intrasquad game. So was run hard on anything you hit.

Funny, when Alabama is throttling FCS Bumblefuck State University 59-0 in the third quarter no one is ever clamoring for Bama to take a knee on every offensive play. That is basically what they are asking Tatis to do in that situation.

I’ve been trying to find your source so I can harass rangers fans, but I’ve struck out. Where did you find that nugget?

Well, it’s more like they’re asking Alabama to not run a flea flicker up 59-0 just because Bumblefuck State is weak in the secondary.

I think it’s a little less niche than that.

I think it’s more like expecting Alabama not to pass on first down in the 3rd quarter up 59-0.

3 games for Gilbeaut, 1 for Woodward.

I don’t know, Bumblefuck State is actually pretty tough against the run.

Love it!

Bwahahhaha!

I cannot believe he apologized for the grand slam on 3-0.

Tatis is setting fire to the unwritten rule book and I love it.

Guess what?

It’s 6-4 now.

I thought the Rangers has to concede when they were down by 4.

After reading more and more about this, the only thing that bugs me is the sheer hypocrisy from most of the idiot fans and writers out there. They defend Tatis and scream bloody murder over the message pitch to Machado, blasting baseball not coming into the 21st century, yet they are the very same ones who wish for Astros players to get beaned, or who bitch about suspensions with quips like “the players know how to handle it” or “back in the day you knew that would earn you a fastball in the ribs” or “you should just take your medicine and move on” if it’s their sacred ox being gored. I guess it’s like politics…as long as its your guy, you’ll spin in circles defending the very same thing you call out in your opponent. Human nature, I suppose. But it still grinds my gears.

The Rangers disabled comments on Twitter yesterday. That’s a strong move. I cannot imagine all the crap tweeted at the Astros on Twitter.

The herd-think is nauseating. So much reflexive, unthinking certainty.

What I can’t get over is the contrast between the indifference piled on Houston when it was forced to change leagues and the insane overreaction to the sign-stealing controversy. If it had been a wealthier more popular team (Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees) it never would have been forcibly relocated and we would all understand that sign-stealing is a natural and honored part of the game.

It has all led me to have a very old-fashioned response, which is just to try and be more mannerly in general in how I respond to things that may bother or outrage me. The Astros deserved some shit for what they did and how they handled it, but the psychic weight of all that knee jerk opprobrium is truly burdensome. I don’t want to add mine to fans of other teams going through similar ringers in the future.

It’s a mob mentality, pure and simple.

Thought, not nuanced, just thought, is not fostered. Rage is rewarded.
