Any buzz about Kimbrel to anywhere?
Hoping everyone is on
Radio silence.

Agreed. In 2019 at this time we were pissed at Luhnow and then…Greinke.
Berrios going to Toronto, according to Rosenthal.
At this point, I’m not sure what Click does. There aren’t that many high-end rotation options remaining. The team may prioritize upgrading centerfield or adding another bullpen arm.
One more good pitcher would be great.
But if no more moves are made I am satisfied ( better word than happy) with the improvements.
I still think they are the best team in the AL
The team used 12 pitchers in both 2017 and 2019 Eorld Series.
The best 12 pitchers still feel like they are good enough to win, even if there are not the imposing Ace pitchers to anchor the staff we saw in the past.
Rays have been mentioned as talking to the Cubs about he and Bryant
That would suck.
Latest is Berrios to Jays.

It really feels like the luxury tax threshold is a barrier.
Cluck said he was not under orders to stay under it but it Feels like that was always the plan and only a grand slam of an opportunity was going to cause them to exceed it.
Are there any grand slam opportunities left?
We simply don’t have the capital to make that trade with the Twins. Not unless you are including Javier or L Garcia in the deal and I wouldn’t do that.
The Twins are getting back the Jay’s top pitching prospect and Austin Martin, whom most regard as can’t miss. Can play center or short. That’s a nice deal for the Twins.
Agreed re Twins high price. We were not in that if they wanted prospects.
Just read again the Jays are in on Bryant and Kimbrel. How the hell do they do that?
I don’t think Bryant will be super costly. He’s a rental. A midlevel prospect or two should do. Kimbrel is another story though. He has that $16M vesting opinion next year and I’m not sure where that stands. You might could get Kimbrel for cheap prospect wise if the Cubs are wanting to ditch his salary, but if your on the hook for the $16M next year that’s another story.
Maybe Luis Castillo is on the Astros radar.
That has been my wild-ass hope as well.
I think this is right, at least in that it cuts out a lot of “middle of the road” type of moves. It doesn’t keep Click from making deals like the Yimi Garcia one, and it wouldn’t stop him from making the grand slam kind of deal where the benefit of the upgrade is clearly worth the cost.
The cost, though, is about more than just money–it’s the draft penalties that probably provide the biggest disincentive. Crane might not care about shelling out a little extra cash, but for Click the upgrade has to be worth trading away players from an already-thin farm system and dropping lower in the draft order (in the case of comp picks if Verlander/Greinkie/Correa decline a QO and sign elsewhere) or losing draft picks altogether (if they’re over the threshold and sign a QO free agent, they lose their 2nd and 5th round picks and $1M from the international bonus pool).
Forget the Morton talk. Braves just acquired Eddie Rosario and Adam Duvall. They are not throwing in the towel.
This puts some pressure on the Mets to get Kris Bryant in my opinion.
I’m a nobody so what I say don’t count, but if the draft pick compensation stops Click from making a big deal, then in my opinion he doesn’t feel we are good enough anyway. The odds of those picks we get for the qualifying offers ever being a difference at the major league level are less than 50/50. It doesn’t matter if we pick at the end of the third or the fifth. You don’t handcuff a World Series quality team from winning it all because of 2-3 draft picks that most likely won’t pan out anyway. You just don’t. If that is why no deal is made, they don’t believe in the team.
I’m hoping the Philles and Mets duke it out and pick up Bryant, Kimbrell and Story…vs. say, TOR or TB adding another piece.
Regardless of whether or not the Astros finalize another trade agreement, Click upgraded the team by acquiring 2 closers.
The Astros are already trade deadline winners.
Astros still need to activate RHP Yimi Garcia. A corresponding roster move is forthcoming.
Take Click at his word that he will continue to try to improve the team via the trade market until 3:01 pm.
He most likely has one more surprise up his sleeve.
Welcome to the board, and overall I agree with you. We are just a greedy bunch around here! LOL
