Who is left in the big splash category?
Also this late breaking flash: FTD, FTY.
Kimbrel is the biggest splash remaining. But on the reliever front, I’d also be pumped about RIchard Rodriguez or Daniel Hudson.
Starter-wise, Berrios is probably the biggest fish left.
If money were no object, wonder if Astros would consider trying to get Springer back from Toronto as the Astros “nuclear option” to match this LAD trade. I realize Tor just acquired Hand but maybe they can be convinced they aren’t getting a wildcard with Oakland and Tampa as good as they are, and/or convinced that McCormick and Grichuk are younger and more cost effective OF options for a team not in the top 6 in the AL, and if Houston were to offer either:
McCormick and to pay the rest of Springer’s salary for the year (roughly 10mm of the 25mm AAV), plus the contract going forward, obviously
Or
McCormick and Verlander and Urquidy and cash to balance out the difference b/t JV and Springer to make it cash neutral for Tor (roughly 37% of Springer aav 25mm vs JV 33mm)
Click said given the right deal, the luxury tax would be no object. Perhaps this could right a wrong and Springer may have realized the grass isn’t greener. I know he’s been hurt much of the year and his power has been ok when he’s played…but imo Springer needs to be an Astro. He’s looked a lot better lately.
This is the one move outside of acquiring an ace that could really move the needle. And no aces seem left unless we can work some CFM magic.
Springer Altuve Brantley Gurriel Alvarez Correa Bregman Tucker Maldanado would be quite the lineup to try to navigate. Not sure Tucker would hit 8th, but a very very good hitter in the lineup would, either way.
May mean we can’t resign Correa, but look at Lindor…the contract that Correa inevitably will sign will likely end up being an albatross eventually.
I love George, but he’s gone, man, he’s gone.
Wonder if we could pull off a Berrios, Buxton, Jeffers deal with Minnesota?
Send over one of Urquidy or Javier, Korey Lee, & either McKirmick, Straw or Jake Meyers.
I think Jeffers has options left and could be 1/2 of the catching situation with Castro next season.
Kyle Schwarber and his 25 homers in 72 games to the Red Sox.
Or maybe they could get Trout and Ohtani for Raley and a PTBNL
Padres are getting Hudson some site said. Wonder what Click is up to? Astros not mentioned all day.
The Astros getting Springer back is the wildest player acquisition scenario I have seen in my 100 years on the TZ. Congrats whoever you are. You have set the bar so high no one will ever come close to topping it.
Forget Springer. Let’s bring Bagwell back and stick him at 3rd while Bregman is hurt.
That’s silly: Bagwell has to throw left-handed now.
I’m sure Bagwell could learn to catch the ball with his other hand. Or maybe we could bring Biggio back and have him be Bagwell’s cutoff man for the throw to 1st. 2 fan favorites back for the stretch run.
Nah, Biggio back at C. That frees up 2B for Joe Morgan.
Wanted: Astros All-Stars. Dead or Alive.
So with Scherzer pitching yesterday it just dawned on me that his Dodger debut will be one of the two games against us in LA next week. I’d love to spoil that debut and light his ass up!!
I like the way you think. They’re dead-ended in LA; play for a champion
Scherzer’s acquisition by LAD, which REALLY pissed me off, must mean bye bye Bauer. Or maybe it does. Formidable rotation for sure if Bauer rejoins it. How are they affording their all-star team?
Wonder what happened to SD? Any insights from all of y’all who are smarter than I? That is most of you, of course.
Ok, Click. Time for a response today.
If the stories we’ve heard about the clubhouse are true, I’ve got to think that Bauer is gone. I don’t know if he can be traded while on “administrative leave” or whatever they’re calling it, but even if he can’t, I won’t be surprised to see the Dodgers put him on some sort of internal suspension and then deal him in the offseason (assuming he doesn’t get flat-out arrested).
I am holding off on judging him guilty until I see what the evidence is. That is the lawyer in me. An arrest is only an allegation. Guilt must be proven by evidence for me.
The clubhouse attitude is a different matter, of course, and he was an arrogant asshole before his legal trouble. You probably are correct about his future, but how tradable is he? The Dodger lawyers no doubt are working on how to void his contract.
