I’m not looking at his ERA or his numbers until you mentioned this. I have watched him pitch and there is something not right. Looking at the numbers, now that you mention it, he has 3 BS and 7 losses. His strikeouts are less than 1 per inning.
Looking at it more closely, one of those 3 BS was a 10 inning save attempt where he didn’t give up a hit or walk but the ghost runner scored on a sac fly after the leadoff hitter hit a ground ball to the 2B side. Another was a walkoff homer to the first batter in the 10th inning of another game.
The composition of the final bullpen after the deadline will be interesting to watch. We started talking about it a little today, but there will be quite a bit of pressure on guys like Abreu and Javier to keep their spots. I am a big fan of both because of their great arms (see Dotel, O. who initially failed as a starter), but they must throw strikes consistently and stop wasting so many pitches. I am eager to see Baez throw.
I am too. I honestly don’t remember much about him from his Dodgers days. I do know from stuff I read when we first signed him, that Dodgers fans were not gonna miss him. Seemed a common theme was he was ok if you let him start a clean inning, but don’t bring him in with runners on.
Anyway, looking forward to to seeing him…or anyone who can throw strikes.
An ego as big as Yellowstone and oh so thin skin. Mack Brown.
I supported him and his teams, and he did something incredibly nice for me and my daughter, but at the end of his reign, I could not stand to listen to him talk.
