Trade Deadline 2023

I don’t recall ever hearing or reading there was a beef between Verlander and Crane. Who is saying there is?

I swear I read it here somewhere but I am getting a little older every day.

Getting older beats the alternative

My mantra

So apparently Cohen considers his contracts as money already spent, so does not care about whether or not he pays it or sheds it.

His goal is to revamp the farm system with as high ceiling prospects as possible and will assume salary to get better prospects.

I still think the Astros need a bat to start vs RHP but the offense has shown enough that it must be very very far behind pitching on the priority list.

Overall since 6/1/23 (nearly 1/3 of a season) - 100 wRC+ is league average

Chas 186
Tucker 183
Yordan 148
Bregman 131
Kessinger 128
Diaz 126
Altuve 121
Abreu 113
Julks 102
Dubon 72
Meyers 59
Pena 46
Madris 37
Maldy 15
Hensley -49

Vs RHP
Chas 170
Yordan 168
Alex 165
Tucker 159
Diaz 145
Altuve 137
Julks 112
Abreu 104
Kessinger 85
Meyers 59
Dubon 52
Madris 43
Pena 14
Maldy 5
Hensley -100

But Chas must be an everyday starter abd Diaz needs to start at least 75% (should be 100% but will never happen)

JV may exercise no trade, some story said.

Are you speaking of this?

“I enjoy it here. I want to be here,” Verlander told The Post. “I’m a New York Met. I signed here to win a championship here. I want to leave a legacy here. That’s why I signed up here. Until that’s put on my plate, if it’s ever put on my plate, I don’t think about that stuff.”

To me, that sounds a lot like the things he was saying in late Aug. 2017.

Honestly, what does anyone expect him to say? “I hate it here, can’t wait to leave”?

Right… that was sort of the point I was getting at.

Right…just saying Howard Johnson is right about Olsen Johnson being right.

“I made a decision because of the money and now that I have the money I’d like a chance to win please. Obviously I can never win with the Mets, because well, Mets.”

You are so talented. And they are so dumb.

No, it was not that article, but it was a similar one predicting he will exercise his no trade. Not a NY writer either.

REH-REN!!!

Nice little rundown on pitching targets at the deadline. As for the hitters, I think Tommy Pham and Adam Duvall would be worth looking at. I know a LH bat would be ideal but that’s tougher to find in this market, and a good RH hitter would still help a lot.

Tommy Pham is an asshole, and I want him nowhere near the Stros.

My new wish is Nolan Jones from Col.

He plays all 4 corner positions w/ RF and 1B the ones he’s played the most.

He hits RHP (122 wRC+ away from Coors) and has an absolute cannon - 100th percentile/99.2 mph avg. Per baseball savant.

Oh, and he has 5 years of control left so the Rockies would want a king’s ransom for him.

I don’t know much about Nolan Jones, but the player from the Rockies I have my eye on is Brent Suter. He’s a lefty reliever which we could use and he’s got very good numbers. He is also relatively fresh as he missed some of the first half due to injury. The one inning he tossed against us last week was impressive. I’d love to have him in our bullpen.

Pham has had a rough life. I like him. He was also, fwiw, a personal favorite of Luhnow’s.
