I have no real problem with trading Peña, he’s a fine player but not a core building block imo. I just couldn’t resist the joke.
He goes to the Braves
For two top-30 prospects and a meh reliever:
He was great in Remington Steele.
Alternative, in the mode of Carnac the Magnificent:
Name something you should not say at a body art parlor.
Except for Prince Albert Pujols
My “friend” is posting that the Astros have inquired about JV
They have had very initial informal talks with Montero going to the Mets to help with cost, along with “young controllable MLB players”
I would love that!
This is interesting. While I’m glad we didn’t sign JV to that same Mets contract, if I can get rid of Montero’s really bad contract and get JV back, I’d do this if it was me. The net effect is just over $20M additional dollars for Houston once you net what remains on their two contracts. It would depend on what else I had to give up of course and I wonder what that would be. The Mets may be wanting to shed dollars to go after Ohtani. Houston might be in a unique position here. I see very few teams taking JV at his age with what remains on that contract. But if the Mets value Montero at all, swapping those contracts potentially helps both teams accomplish some goals. We might not have much competition if there is any truth to this, so potentially the addition prospects we have to give up could be mid level system players. Will interesting to see how this plays out.
The truth of this is less relevant to me than how badly I want it to be true.
Now if only some other posters on this site could admit to this (on a different thread)…
This makes me curious. What are you talking about here?

I think the great part in terms of competition is that JV has a full no trade clause so he can decide if and where he wants to go. I would hope the Astros would be at the top of his list, although I know some here have posted Crane/Verlander might have gotten a little sideways before he eventually left for Stem. Hopefully that is just speculation and not true.
Oh, ok. One of the ones I have hidden replies to himself multiple times.
I certainly do not know, but I do not believe that is true.
If there is a problem between JV and Crane, I bet they would be willing to smooth things over if given the opportunity. JV can’t be too upset making over $100mm during his time here and 2 World Series rings.
Having said that, I’m very skeptical that he gets traded by the steM.
I don’t think I’ve heard anything to that effect, but if he was happier here on this roster than he is in NY, I bet that’d be what matters most.
If JV were going to waive his no trade clause I would be shocked if Houston wasn’t on the list of possible cities. If you’re gonna get traded, why not back to the place you’re already familiar with, especially when you have young kids.
I thought Crane said he simply told JV that if the Mets were offering that much, he should take it.
