Trade Deadline 2023

Civale?? He has a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts. If that’s your #5, you better win the whole thing.

I think Civale is better than a 5, but I agree with your point. Like I said above, Brown, and the Astros, are in a tough spot competing for limited talent with a bunch of teams who have REALLY good cards to play.

Step back from the ledge. Having Valdez-Javier-Brown as your postseason 3 isn’t waving a white flag.

Bonus that Stros won’t have to face Civale (not sure if they were scheduled to face him or not).

Civale pitched yesterday, so the Astros wouldn’t have seen him this series anyway.

Smoke and mirrors.

avg exit velo: 89.2 vs MLB avg 88.4
BABIP: .243 vs MLB avg .294
K%: 19.0% vs MLB avg 22.9%
gb rate: 40.4% vs MLB avg 42.6%
FB rate: 28.7% vs MLB avg 24.9%

It all adds up to a BOR starter who is primed for some regression

Doesn’t strike out hitters and has very lucky BABIP despite high exit velocities and low ground ball rate.

To me thats a #5, but at least he is durable and available.

He’s only 13 years old.

Also listed as leader for JV’s next team.

The only way that would happen is if:

  1. He doesn’t get traded at the deadline or the off-season
  2. The Astros decided that they would not re-sign Bregman, “freeing up” $30M
  3. The Astros didn’t feel they could keep Tucker
  4. The Astros did what they have never done and simply outbid everyone else

Sewald to the Diamondbacks. Josh Rojas is part of the return for Seattle. Dominic Canzone (OF/1B, #19 ranked Arizona prospect by MLB.com and INF Ryan Bliss, #29 ranked Arizona prospect also going to Seattle)

Mark Canha to the Brewers for Justin Jarvis. (As @MusicMan points out he’s Milwaukee’s 30th ranked prospect.)

Jarvis is the Brewers #30 prospect

BA has him #12 after their midseason update. Just based on their grades on his pitches and overall potential, if I had to comp him to someone in the Astros system I guess I’d say Andrew Taylor (our #11), but that may be a superficial comparison. Jarvis is also closer to the majors than Taylor.

Cubs have officially turned buyer and acquired Nationals 3B Jeimer Candelario, one of the better bats known to be available.

Mariners are sending AJ Pollock to San Francisco. Pollock is hitting .173 and I honestly forgot he was still in the league.

Tomorrow is the wrong time for me to be on a plane

We all must make sacrifices for the revolution.

Kevin Made (#14 Cubs prospect, SS) and DJ Herz (#16 Cubs prospect, LHP) going to Washington.

Nothing new but I guess it’s worth stating. Per Ken Rosenthal, the Astros are still engaged on the Verlander front and has a source claiming the Astros would be the preferred destination if he is traded.

Boob Nightengale so big bag of salt

Talks with the #Astros have accelerated the last 24 hours, and the #Mets have made it clear they’re willing to move him

Rosenthal concurs, saying Crane is becoming involved and some sources say Houston is JV’s preferred destination.
