I was still living in my first post-college poverty 4plex in Montrose, had been out for some Friday night darts and beers at Griff’s, was trying to go to sleep around midnight (I’d have 610 radio on low in the background as noise, and outside noise canceller) when Arnie Spanier starts yelling about “HEY HOUSTON WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT RANDY JOHNSON COMING TO TOWN?”

So I woke right the hell up and called my buddy and his quote was “Oh fuck yeah, World Series, baby!”

His starts in the Dome were electric.

Remember that like it was yesterday. Didn’t think anyone could beat a rotation of Johnson, Reynolds, Hampton and Lima. Bergman wasn’t a bad #5 in 98 either. Then you had Wagner and Elarton throwing gas in the bullpen. Powell and Henry were very good in the pen too. That team will always be one I thought should have contended for a World Series ring.

If we get JV back for 2 or 3 more years, I will be mildly insane. I am in NYC for the next week, and I may just run out in the street hollering “FUCK THE YANKEES AND ALL Y’ALL.”
