This would be a VERY good addition to the rotation and he’s controllable at a reasonable price for 3 more years beyond this season.
He has an opt out after this season
Only a disloyal mofo would opt out of a deal with the Astros.
Yes, you are correct. All I looked at on roster resource was the yearly chart and it wasn’t specified there. Thanks for pointing that out.
If the Astros trade for JV, the Mets taking back Montero or McCullers could be an option to offset salary.

Mets had choice from group of prospects, some rated higher than Acuna, including pitching - Mets wanted Acuna. Some think he will be really good - some scouts think he is D. DeShields Jr. …. Time will tell.
A lot of the issues with the Verlander option can be off set by them taking Montero or McCullers.
Astros also talking to the Tigers about Rodriguez.
Correct.
Looks like Stroman and Bellinger will be staying in Chicago with the Cubs winning lately
I normally don’t take too much stock in Schwab but he was right about Scherzer yesterday. Basically he says the Astros are in discussion for JV but are reluctant about the vesting option for 2025

It would be a real shame to doom Ohtani’s career like that.
I’ve never liked Ohtani. He’s a HELL of a baseball player, no question. But the pouty face every time someone pitches him inside does my head in.
Yeah, that’s a reason not to get the best player in baseball.
There are 500 million reasons why a team would not sign Ohtani. Why not make it one more.
If he’s an Astro and some time pitches him inside, they’re the assholes.
On MLB Radio a few minutes ago, Astros GM Dana Brown said the Astros are not currently in the starter market at the moment, but that could change. They are more focused on the back end of the bullpen. A left hand bat “would be nice, but our priority is the bullpen.”
He said again after that, that something could change on the starter front. Then……
…talk shifted to Brantley and Brown brought up Uncle Mike without being prompted. Said he was taking BP right now and putting balls in the seats. Said he’s “ramping up.”
Talk then shifted to the draft where Brown said they were pretty happy with their draft. Bowden brought up Chaz and what a surprise he’s been and he asked Brown was that sustainable, to which Brown replied that he thought it was.
Back to the trade market where Brown said money would not be an issue when it came to who they wanted to acquire.
That’s about it. If I remember correctly, Brown said more than once that a starter wasn’t the focus but it could change. I just got the feeling that “he doth protest too much” where the starter talk was concerned. I think he’ll get one if the price is right.
Bowden then asked Brown what he thought of the Scherzer deal. Brown said he thought it was a good deal for both sides and that he and Bagwell exchanged text message discussing Acuna when the deal was announced. After that they let Brown go get some work done.
Bowden and Duquette each like the Scherzer deal, but both said Verlander is the prize, that Scherzer is at best a 2 these days. They do however love the depth this gives the Rangers rotation.
They then discussed a proposed trade where the Astros and Cardinals would swap Dubin and Camillo Diaz for Jordan Hicks.
I am pleasantly surprised by the Brantley news.
If he was, nobody told him because he’s on the mound right now
I really hope this is posturing. The goal is win the World Series and the rotation as presently constructed is not good enough to do that.
Sorry, what I read was wrong.
It’d definitely surprise me if they don’t add a starter. I don’t disagree with Brown about the bullpen, I just think adding a starter helps with both problems.
Agreed. Relying on Bielak and France, no matter how impressed I am by their performances, doesn’t strike me as a sustainable path to the postseason. And even if Urquidy returns to the rotation, I’m not sure how much anyone can reasonably expect out of him.
