Acuña is the number #44 prospect in the MLB.com Top 100 and the third-best prospect in the Rangers system.

Oh, now now I’m really not sure what’s going on.
Unless the younger brother is better than Ronald (and maybe he is, I don’t know), this seems relatively inexpensive.

My thoughts as well.
The money sent to TEX is more than he’s owed for the rest of the season. And he still has an opt-out without a buyout.
I must be wrong. They must have gotten him to waive the opt out.

While I agree, the Astros don’t have anyone in their system ranked that high on the prospects lists. To me that means to get JV, it will cost us Gilbert and more. And apparently we want the Mets to eat money too. Also, it appears JV’s vesting year is a big concern.

I suspect you’re right, but I think they’re going to be disappointed. I just don’t see him leaving the west coast.
Actually, Ohtani or not this is a genius move by Cohen.because he doesn’t give a damn about spending the money. Blow everybody out of the water in FA and buy up all the free agents and if you don’t do well as a team, just pay more money to acquire a bunch of prospects for them all and then try the same thing again the following year.
