Even if another centerfielder isn’t added at the last minute, James Click did fine when it comes to trades. Vazquez is a big upgrade on Lee and Castro (he’s a solid starting option) and Mancini gives them the extra OF they needed with Brantley’s status so murky. He can also spell Yuli at 1B. Odorizzi for Smith was clearing a spot for McCullers and adding a left-handed arm with a history of past late-inning success to the bullpen.
Agree.
The roster is better than it was a week ago.
There were no significant center field upgrades reasonably available or Click is confident that Meyers/McCormick can do the job. Either way:
IN CLICK WE TRUST
Leon has 314 ABs and has 101 Ks.
HE. CAN’T. MAKE. CONTACT. CONSISTENTLY.
It weren’t for a lack of trying I’m sure.
Bell to SD really fucked things up.
The fact of the matter is the current centerfield market sorta sucks. Harrison Bader and Brandon Marsh were the two traded today, and neither is a good hitter. Meyers, McCormick and Dubon aren’t a problem defensively. It’s their offense that’s in question.
He likely gave up on Bell when he turned to Mancini. I’d love to know how that played out.
CF is really a very weak position in MLB as a whole right now
I think Meyers also is having trouble throwing.
I am asking the question thats all.
He’s 24 and has over 1 1/2 yrs in minors as well as pro Cuban experience that is likely more advanced than college.
Season 26.4%K, 13.8% BB.
last 90: 24.7%K, 14.0% BB.
JULY: 14.1%K. 17.4% BB
Maybe it “clicked” and he solved the swing and miss issues?
If the Astros have 3 CF options:
Meyers
McCormick
Leon
Then maybe he is ready for an audition and maybe he is the best option.
Is it weird that Rome, McTaggart, Berman et al haven’t confirmed there were no more deals?
Hopeful
Stranger things have happened
Possibly waiting to inform a player before announcing it?
That’s what I’m hoping.
I doubt Meyers is fully healthy. His shoulder injury was serious and very challenging to recover from.
Perhaps he can be closer to the guy he was last season with another offseason to heal. But, that remains to be seen.
Look I’m hopeful Leon will be a stud.
But to name one example Derek Fisher KILLED AAA pitching.
The way Meyers is playing it is easy to imagine that he is not 100% in which case he should not be playing.
I believe that Leon is a pipe dream, at least for now. But If Meyers is hurt, bring Leon up and see what he can do. They have plenty of room in the standings for a Leon experiment.
I think I would rather see Dirden than Leon right now.
Fair question, what is the team incentive to play an injured Meyers? We have less than perfect options, but I’d opt for the best glove there
You guys may be right.
All I’m saying is that of the options maybe its worth giving him an audition.
I hope Brantley returns before October. That would solve all of this.
