Oh, you poor baby. I do not know you and have no idea whether I would like you if I did. I do not like your clueless posts, that’s for sure.
mean while back at the ranch.
Let’s not start a holy war now.
Being a closer is such a tough gig. Anything short of perfection and people are trying to replace you. Ryan Pressly is not a problem
Only the one he throws.
What the absolute fuck? I never said anything like that.
My comment has NOTHING TO DO with a blown save.
Why trade Pressly then?
I read it as trading from a position of strength - “this team has several options for closer” - to bolster where we really have a deficit, such another outfielder and bat.
We’ll be glad we have plenty of guys who can close if/when we are making a run in the playoffs.
This is the fucking trade deadline. Click has a duty to explore options to make the team better. This duty requires him to see what players will bring in return. The Astros have at least three other closers in residence. That is why I suggested he see what Pressly would bring. That does not mean trade him.
I DID NOT ADVOCATE TRADING PRESSLY.
This is the second time that I can remember this year you talking about Pressly not being the closer or that there are options other than Pressly. The last time? After the Yankee blown save. Why would a team in contention move one of their best bullpen arms? They wouldn’t. If your comment has nothing to do with the blown save then I’d really like to hear the rationale, honestly
I give up.
Looks like one of our other options blew the lead in the 8th. Let’s see what Stanek would bring.
Coach, I hear you. My take is you’d like to know what kind of haul he’d bring since RP (Closers) are in such small supply while we seem to have an abundance of pitching.
Nowhere did I see you say (that seeing what the haul might look like) equates to pulling the trigger on a trade for him.
People might be just trying to get your goat, here.
But another way to look at Jim’s point is that it is not easy trying to solve three possible areas of need at the transfer deadline (back up catcher, Centerfielder who might spell Brantley in LF if he does not heal, and sort out the 1st base offensive production issue). Not easy at all.
Some people here do for sure, but Doyce is not one of them. His posts surprised me, but I do not really care. I do not have to justify my thinking here.
You understood what I was saying 100%.
Definitely.
I was wondering what kind of haul it might take to bring in Yuli’s little brother, Lourdes - he can play first or OF and is hitting a ton. But he is the kind of player that you might have to pay through the teeth with (someone like Pressly, Pitching prospect like Brown, and any one of our other CF’ers might get close).
But then again, I am not sure that is the kind of trade I would want to fall on my sword on (except he is young, good and under contract for peanuts compared to many all-stars). Would take a haul.
Cheers.
The bullpen is likely what will win or lose a World Series. You don’t trade your best reliever. The only way I trade Pressly is if it gets us a center fielder AND Click picks up a better closer. Not likely to happen. Otherwise leave the bullpen alone.
I wasn’t trying to attack you or anything. I was just surprised that you of all people would be willing to listen to offers on Pressly. As we often say around here, and in baseball in general, you can never have too much good pitching. Good relievers are like gold when it comes to October. I don’t see a world where you trade Pressly and improve the odds of winning the World Series and that makes me think the idea is not even worth entertaining
Wins or losses in the WS is so subjective. It is a team that wins it or loses - not one specialized unit (I would argue when we won the world series, we won it because of Marwin’s Home Run in game two, and our starting pitching getting us over the line.
While I am sure you have a tremendous amount of knowledge about the Stros relief pitching, I am not sure we have anyone in our pen that is head and shoulders (like Rivera or Hoffman) above the others. Now, if you are asking me, should we trade Pressly, I would probably say no.
But you need to keep your options open. “One ping Vasily, one ping only” doesn’t get it done as we have seen in past Red Octobers.
I would listen to offers on every player on the team. That does not mean I would accept any.
Your post and its tone really pissed me off. I walked away from it, though, because of your history with me.
