Tigers @ Astros, April 4, 2023

You’d need a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood to chart Framber’s pitch locations.

Top 5

Baez down on three pitches, Baez playfully waves at Maldy as he tags him out after swinging on a bouncer. 1 out.

Greene swings wildly at a riding inside fastball, takes strike 2 down the pipe, Doinker to 2nd base and Dubon fucking boots it. May’ve been a hit anyway, but that was fucking horrible by Dubon. Yup, that’s an error.

Torkelson with a runner on first takes a ball, swings through a fastball, heater on the outside corner, 1-2, Way low and in, 2-2. Fouled off. Pickoff, safe. Way up and out, 3-2. Meatball rocketed up the middle for a single, runners on 1st and 2nd, one out. Framber at 82 pitches.

Haase fouls off a low change, 0-1. Maldy boxes a up and away fastball, fucking awful. runners both move up, 1-1. Infield now in. Grounder right to Pena and runners on the move and PENA FUCKING BOOTS IT. He recovers and throws to 1st, but they got a run they shouldn’t have. 2 outs, runner on 3rd.

Miggy way up and out, 1-0. Miggy slaps one foul, 1-1. Bounced 55 footer, 2-1. Fouled straight down, 2-2. Swings over a 2 seamer to end the inning.

Mid 6, 3-2 Tigers on an unearned run.

That was an absolutely brutal defensive inning.

Dubon booted a grounder, Maldy boxed an easy fastball, and Pena clanked a almost sure out at home.

Fucking horrible.

And Detroit starts off with a fantastic diving catch in center.

The BBGs never sleep.

Bottom 6

Yordan takes a pitch several inches up, strike 1. Takes one off the outside corner, strike 2. Jeff Nelson intent on fucking him apparently. Way up, ball one. Way up, ball 2. Ripped to center, Greene coming on, dives and makes a great play on a the full extension dive. 1 out.

Abreu takes ball one, up. Swings over a slider outside, Popped foul down the RF line, everyone converges near the wall and it falls about a foot in front of short wall in foul territory. Fouls off a fastball. Takes strike 3 at the knees, 2 outs.

Tucker fouls one off, 0-1. Gets a meatball down the middle and Tucker is a mile behind it, 0-2. Tigers have action in the bullpen. Fastball inside corner yanked foul. Still 0-2. Off the outside corner, 1-2. 55 footer, 2-2. Way out, 3-2. Just off the outside corner, walk for King Tuck.

Runner on 1st for Julks, and here comes AJ Hinch. That’ll be it for Matt Manning.

Julks up facing Jason Foley with 2 outs and a runner on 1st. Ball one, low. Way inside, 2-0. Fouls off an inside fastball, 2-1. Man, Jeff Nelson hates the Astros, questionable outside corner strike 2. Pops a slider to shallow LCF, Baez hauls it in.

End 6

3-2 Tigers

The Astros are really checking in with some pitiful at bats and pitch selection tonight aside from Tucker.

Top 7

Framber out to start the 7th at 90 pitches.

Schoop takes ball one, bouncing breaking ball. Swings over a change, 1-1. Way low and in, 2-1. Way low, 3-1. Bottom of the zone strike, 3-2. The seldom mentioned Ryne Stanek warming in the pen. Knee high cheese PONCHE! 1 out.

Rogers takes strike 1. Takes strike 2. Curve on the corner PONCHE! 2 outs.

Kreidler up, Framber at 99 pitches. Slaps one in to right center for a single. Fantastic.

Vierling up, takes strike 1 on the outside corner. Fouls off a low fastball, 0-2. 2 seamer on the inside corner PONCHE! Strikes out the side with a single as well. That presumably is it for Framber.

Mid 7, 3-2 Tigers.

Framber gets thru 7.

He wasn’t exactly sharp but he’s a bulldog and deserved better than the 6th inning.

Attaboy Jake

This is sad.

Dammit.

Why not just bunt?

That’s what my dad would have done.

The Astros are so frustrating to watch right now. So inconsistent.

When you run out Julks, Meyers, Dubon and Maldonado, that’s four out of the nine innings when you can’t score.

With the current bottom of the order, you have to manufacture runs when you can.

Bottom 7

Foley still on the bump facing Meyers, fouls off strike 1. Low and out, ball 1. Grounder up the middle off the pitcher’s glove and Kreidler can’t handle it cleanly either, Meyers is safe at first! Ruled a hit.

Dubon’s error has been changed to a hit.

Dubon up fouls off strike one on a low fastball. Slapped foul again, Dubon quickly down 0-2, way behind both of these pitches. Low and out, 1-2. Dubon is the only Astro with an official AB that hasn’t struck out yet this season. Throw over, not close. Slapped a slider foul. Fouled off a fastball inside. Foley at 13 pitches. Low and out, 2-2. Chopped right back to the pitcher and despite some slight bobbling turns the 1-4-3 double play. Dubon was incredibly overmatched that whole at bat. Fuck. 2 outs.

Maldy swings over a fastball, 0-1. Out, ball 1. Inside, Maldy holds up, 2-1. Bounced, 3-1. Phillies beat the Yankees for their first win of the year, 4-1. Right down the middle, 3-2. JUST low, what a take by Maldy, walks.

Pena up with a runner on 1st and 2 outs. Foley at 21 pitches now. Out comes the pitching coach for a lil chat. Pena is 0-3 but has hit the ball hard twice and punched out. Takes the same pitch Maldy walked on for strike 1. Action in the Tiger’s pen, a lefty. Grounder the pitcher deflects but Kreidler snags it and throws it to first for the 3rd out.

Another dog shit inning.

End 7, 3-2 Tigers.

I’m aware. They need Michael Brantley back as soon as possible and to consider options outside the organization in the short term. You can’t score consistently with those guys in the 6-9 spots in the order.

I’d say they’re pretty fucking consistent. It’s just not good.

Too bad he didn’t get his first.
