I live in a rural town of 3,900 people in VT that covers 50.3 square miles. There are 3 weekly local papers delivered to my house (for free) each week (The Charlotte News, The Citizen, The Charlotte Bridge) and each also has an online version. They’ve worked it out amongst themselves to never deliver on the same day so that there is some semblance of almost daily coverage. Each paper is funded by ads from local businesses and each employs 15-25 people and each is non-profit or operates at a profit. There’s even a 4th delivered once per week called The Burlington Free Press Hometown that is delivered once per week and is tailored to the locality in which it is delivered. One for Burlington, one for South Burlington, one for Shelburne, one for Charlotte, etc… Most of these tailored distributions are for towns of less than 10K people. Some places are still making it work.
Out of curiosity do you know of Randall Szott?
I think he may have been ( still is?) a state congressman out your way?
He was a high school buddy of mine and kept in touch on Facebook until a couple of years ago. Lost track of him.
I can’t be sure it was Vermont but think it was. I think he cancelled his facebook when he got elected
I get the Highlander (Marble Falls/Burnet area paper) and the Johnson City Record Courier. You can read both in about 7 minutes, but there’s occasionally some good stuff and you can keep up on local news that happened 4 days ago.
At my mom’s house we cancelled the Statesman subscription about a year+ ago and stopped paying them but they still deliver a Sunday paper every week.
I don’t know him but know former State Senator Zach Ralph and current State Senator Anne Watson very well.
Thanks anyway.
I just googled him I guess he only served 1 term 19-21
Windsor 4-1 district it says.
I’ll reach out to old friends until some one knows how to reach him.
Thanks.
Sorry. I didn’t expect you to know him.
“Oh you live in Vermont. I have a friend who lives there. Do you know Randy?”
I was just wondering if you knew of any news relating to him that might interest me. Or if I could still get in touch with him via the state congress or his office.
Thanks anyway.
That’s really innovative and interesting. If I were 40 years younger, I would love to work as a reporter in a place like that.
I get a daily paper delivered in New Braunfels.
Ha. Vermont is so lightly populated that it’s actually not a bad question to ask. The fact that I know two state senators (and the mayor of the capitol city) from my personal life here and I’ve only been here 4 years kinda proves that out. On the flip side, people would ask me all the time “do you know my uncle Bob, he works on the F22 program” all the time when I worked at Lockheed Martin. There were “only” 165,000 of us in the company at the time…
In case you are interested I have found out that he chose not to seek reelection and then took a position of “Town administrator” for Walcott in Oct 2020 if that means anything to you.
I wonder if my Cousin Bill knows your Uncle Bob, since they both worked for the F22 program
I used to get the NB H-Z but the delivery was too inconsistent.
The “Epoch Times” is thrown unasked for in my neighborhood about once per month. I used to use it to line the bird’s cage, but she started saying some really wacky shit so I just toss it in the bin.
And they reached a deal with Urquidy for $3.025 million according to Tags.
Nice. He’s earned it.
Tags tweeted a deal with Dubon, too: $1.4M.
So Yuli looks like a non-factor going forward
Plus all the shampoo and conditioner he wants
