It is way narrower than the public thinks it is.
Collier was drafted in July, so don’t believe he can traded yet.
Encarnacion-Strand and Marte are two really interesting prospects, though.
I thought they changed that rule, making draftees tradeable after the WS ends (not that Collier is going to be traded anyway).
This is correct.
And I stand corrected.
Varsho to the Blue Jays for Lourdes Gurriel and backup catcher Gabriel Moreno.
ETA: a few days ago but I hadn’t heard about it 'til now.
The C is their #1 prospect. Big haul for Varsho.
Just wait until you hear about the Correa saga.
Hearing Trent Grisham in SD might be available. Bat has went downhill year over year so not sure if he’d be an upgrade or not. Does hit lefty though and an excellent defender in CF.
I’d be totally fine with that. He’s a frustrating hitter but he still brings a lot to the table.
A poster was going off about how he could be a better GM than half of the GMs in MLB.
This was my “friend’s” response with a clue.
I have asked Goldstein about this before, about whether there are “fans” that would be better GM’s than some existing GM’s once a couple years ago.
What he basically told me is that 25-35 years ago there were some GM’s that really were incompetent because they worked their way up the organization and had seniority but really were not sophisticated enough. Now, that is extremely rare because there is so much information and ways to measure success and failure.
As for fans, Goldstein said that there ARE some fans that are better at either player evaluations or hypothetical trades or even roster building. However, that is only like 20% of their job, and that being a good GM is more about hiring the right people in the industry to work for you at all levels, to know how to get everyone to work together living in different locations, know when to delegate and not delegate, etc. So ultimately, no, a fan off the street wouldn’t be better at that because they are not in the culture or know what to do or not do… which is why I said I didn’t have a problem with Crane handling free agency, but we need a GM for the other 95% of the things a GM does.
And I am ready for that decision to be made. Has there been any reports of any interviews Crane has done?

Red Sox and Rafael Devers have agreed to an 11 year $331M extension
really?
Really.
Thats a lot of money but Devers is a stud.
I am starting to think $30M per year is the baseline for a solid FA these days.
This morning I heard that he had agreed to 17.5 to avoid arbitration. I thought that was a ridiculously low amount. Now I know the rest of the story.
