The Void: 2022-23 Offseason

My mother told me many times “It is just as easy to love a rich girl as a poor one.”

Whiff.

It appears your mother did not have a lot of experience loving rich girls.

Lol

I’m 52 years old, have been working since I was 14, and haven’t made $2M total in my whole working life.

My first job was at age 13 in 1973 at “Bamboo Gardens” Chinese Restaurant on Hillcroft in Houston. I washed dishes. The lower than expected value of my first paycheck was an education.

Bellinger to Cubs, $17.5 million for one year with second year option

That is a fair assumption, but she had lots of experience giving advice.

Rodon a Yanker 6/162

Dammit

I do not think we were in on him so we’ll beat him too.

Mets to sign catcher Omar Narvaez. Really wanted him. Starting to look like possibly Barnhart or Lee/Diaz.

I’m hoping for Alfaro. Had pretty good numbers against lefties and can also play a little LF if needed.

Plus still young enough to maybe have a little untapped potential.

Somebody should call Crane with these great ideas. My totally ignorant thought is when we lost Vazquez, he quit thinking about catchers.

ETA: So did I. I thought Lee was a lock for backup C so we’ll see. I still think we need another frontline P, and oh boy, do I ever hope Brantley is healthy.

Yeah, I did too until I heard the talk about us wanting Contreras and Vazquez. I think I’m fine with Lee though I wanted the left handed bat Narvaez provided.

Regarding the Yankees, with the signing of Rodon, if Montas rebounds and their rotation is able to stay healthy, they have definitely improved. If they now get Benintendi to lead off in front of Judge they are going to be formidable. Not unbeatable by any means, but definitely better than a year ago.

We still need a bat who can DH and possibly play center or left. I like Brantley but I don’t think you can wait until spring training to see if he’s healthy. I wish we would grab Benintendi or Conforto.

At this point, it’s fingers crossed for medical rehabs on LMJ, Meyers, and Brantley, and progression for Lee. If the aforementioned ofs are taken, then lock in Javier and Valdez at minimum. I assume Tucker will test FA when the time comes

Diaz had a solid AAA season. If he doesn’t like catching, is he useful in lf?

Who cares? Rodon was vocal about his dislike of the Astros two years ago, and the Astros knocked him around in their playoff meeting.

The Astros need to focus on improving their roster, which they always do.

If Houston can pitch in '23 like '22, all the shiny new toys the other teams are bringing in don’t mean shit.

How many others think Kyle Tucker is a darkhorse for MVP next year?

End of the shift could mean solid increase in BA ( 10 extra hits would have been .276 instead of .257)

Limited pickoff throws and larger bases ( along with more singles) could mean 30+ SB.

Growing into his adult frame could mean 35+ HR

Abreu hitting behind him instead of Yuli will help him get better pitches as long as he is selective and patient.

I feel its setting up very well for him

I’m also optimistic that Tucker will have a great 2023, but I don’t know about MVP numbers. He’s a very dark horse at this point.
