And shaky cam. Dear Lord.

In old Trek (or Lower Decks) that would’ve been an entire episode where they would’ve explored the nuance and meaning behind the aliens’ issues and needs.
In Disco, it’s done in 2 minutes while being chased and under fire. I didn’t make it to the end of Ep 1, although I may try again later.
I strongly advise that you not bother. It only gets worse.
I got disenchanted with Discovery about 4 episodes into the second season. Does Burnham still speak in an over-dramatic strained voice all the time?
Unfortunately, yeah, pretty much.
After two episodes of Picard S2 I’m really enjoying it.
And Disco still has a LOT of ground to cover in its season finale.
Pushing through Disco and I’m on to Ep 4.
Aaaaaaaand here comes the mid-season filler.
Skipped to Ep. 5. Now I’ll never know what happened to all those annoying fuckwits stuck on an ice moon. Oh well…
I made it to the end of ST: Disco 4. To be honest, I actually enjoyed the back half of the season. There were some annoying sub-plots (e.g. Saru’s love life having to be addressed in the middle of tense action), but that’s not unique to Disco, Trek or movies in general. I liked where it was going (literally and figuratively), until…
Spoiler
…it turned into stupid “Arrival” at the end. I thought the device of the molecules and light-show code combo language was well done, but suddenly they could have extended, nuanced conversations moments after claiming “DMA bad” was too complex. Gotta give Michael her time to speechify, I guess.
Also, Stacey Abrams as President of Earth was pretty clunky and unnecessary. Was Oprah not available?
Also, how the fuck was this not used in the show somewhere:
10cc - The Things We Do For Love
“Communication is the problem to be answered”
Picard 2: Pic-Harder, has started well. Although it’s pretty obvious that they’re giving Patrick Stewart as much sitting down to do as possible.
Wild Guesses
Seven stays behind in 2024 and the drop-in clinic Doc comes forward to the 24th century with Rios.
Also, given Stewart’s physical limitations, he may not come back at all. Heroic death in the season finale.
So to bring this thread back to musical theater…
I finally saw Hamilton last night. I know I will be pilloried for this and called all manner of uncultured racist redneck, but I was thoroughly underwhelmed. I knew it was basically a rap musical, and I can appreciate the genre, but I’m just not into hip hop music or culture. It got better, and Act 2 was definitely way better than the first, but I just couldn’t dig it. The music wasn’t my taste, the street rhyme dialogue was incredibly difficult to understand, and to top it off, it wasn’t nearly loud enough (which I recognize is the fault of the venue, not the program). Overall it was a disappointment and I’d give it a C+.
Fire away.
Neck.
It was better than Chess. Does that absolve me?
Hoo, talk about damning with faint praise.
Seriously, I think it’s a work of absolute genius with some problematic flaws, but I fully recognize that immersing myself in the lyrics beforehand made it much easier to understand.
You couldn’t understand many lyrics, even the spoken words. It was poorly produced, and I’m sure that contributed to my disappointment. Even Mrs Hawk, who complains about the noise when a mouse farts in Montgomery County, complained about the lack of volume last night. Also, if you didn’t know the story of Alexander Hamilton already (which granted any American should), I doubt you could have followed the plot all that closely.
To each his own. I can appreciate, without being a fan.
The Sci-Fi TV thread?
You, my man, have no business ever talking about musical theater after that blasphemy.
It makes a hard man humble.
