Phase 4 has been a lot like phase 2 - really struggling to find their footing but with some solid (Dr Strange/Shang Chi) and some phenomenal (Winter Soldier/No way Home) mixed in.
I started Eternals the other night but only made it midway before I decided I was going to bed. I may finish it tonight. There are only a couple of characters I do not actively dislike.
I finished Leviathan Falls the other day. Good ending to a good story. I’m about to start Expanse Season 6. Anyone watched yet? How much story does it cover?
Spoilery Rant
It makes no sense to me that the Celestials would create a band of superbots to control the population of Deviants, and then make them all flawed characters imbued with self-determination so that they could rebel. This may be more of an issue with the source material than the movie, but they decided to make the movie so it’s still on them.
Just because James Gunn is talented/demented enough to make a hit out of the Guardians of the Galaxy, doesn’t mean that anyone can make a franchise out of anything. Edgar Wright is a supremely talented movie maker, cut from the same cloth as Gunn, yet no one went to see “Scott Pilgrim” (despite it being awesome).
Man, I was about to write this exact same post.
Ragnarok is probably my favorite MCU movie, and I’ve loved everything Taika has done, so I’m definitely excited for Love and Thunder.
NBC better not fuck this up (if they green light it at all). Quantum Leap was a constant companion for me during Junior High and Freshman/Sophomore years of High School - i.e. a seriously awkward but formative period of my life.
And if they do fuck this up, expect a sternly worded letter from me on the matter.
I’m with you. QL was one of the best shows ever. They’d better not fuck it up.
The JFK episode is one of the great sci fi episodes of all time, and the finale still pisses me off.
One of the show runners has Hawaii 5-0 on the resume so that’s pretty freaking inauspicious.
Not when it comes to theme songs.
QL’s theme slapped too
The reboot 5-0 abomination, not the Jack Lord classic.
I watched a lot of the reboot a few years ago, getting ready for a trip to Hawaii. It was no worse than any other 70s action TV. I thought the Magnum reboot was actually pretty good.
I remember the 5-0 reboot using the same theme song.
Back to say that Eternals was pretty decent in the end, despite how formulaic it was.
The post-credits scene, though. Yes, please!
And @Limey , I got through 2 episodes of Peacemaker last night, and whoa, you weren’t kidding.
This was my thought whenever Selma Hayek was on screen
If there’s one thing I’ve learned watching the reboot, it’s that Hawaii is the most dangerous place on the planet - terrorists (cyber and Middle Eastern), serial killers, kidnappers, Yakuza, Mexican and Colombian drug cartels, escaped felons, pirate ghosts, cold cases…
It covers the 6th book (and a tiny bit of post-6th stuff, mainly from the novella Strange Dogs), but it’s only 6 episodes.
I was pretty bored with S6 midway through. It was my least favorite of the books, and Marco Inaros is, frankly, a boring character. I didn’t like the void that Cas Anvar’s absence left either. But by the last two episodes I was fully on board and I feel like they really did stick the landing. I’m going to miss this show. A lot.
That’s good enough for me. I thought the books ended with a satisfyingly complete story. I’ll enjoy finishing out the show too. Thanks.
