Yes, I somewhat remember this being a bone of contention.
It’s ESB.
ETA: T2 should be in the conversation.
I guess I should have said “better” not “best”, because T2 and Aliens were not part of the discourse. And for the record, Aliens is better than T2
I could spend days arguing with myself as to whether Aliens or T2 is better, and whether either is better or worse than their predecessor.
Carrie Henn > Edward Furlong, thus Aliens wins
Y’all are all gonna tell me I’m wrong, and I may well be, but it’s Blade Runner 2049.
I’m with you.
We had no time machine back then
Not sure I’d say “best”, but it definitely belongs in the conversation
It’s a shame they fucked up the Matrix sequels so badly
[Every movie in the franchises after Aliens and T2 enter the chat]
I have some level of hope for Alien: Romulus and the Noah Hawley tv series (I think that’s still happening)
Prey was good, Predator 2 has it’s ridiculous charms, but the AvP crossovers were a huge missed opportunity
Robocop 2? Dear god.
Me too. The trailer looks good and it’s pitched in the classic timeline between Alien and Aliens…
Really enjoyed Prey, especially considering the premise of it was completely “WTF?”.
There was a RoboCop 3 and a remake.
It’s important to remember that, while the debate can rage about what was the best sequel, before Empire there had never been a sequel that came anywhere close to matching its predecessor, let alone exceeding it. The Matrix, Predator and RoboCop sequels were far more the norm than Empire, Aliens and T2.
[Jaws has entered the chat]
Godfather Part II would like a word.
Strictly keeping this to the sci-fi, it’s Empire Strikes back and everyone else playing for second place. To me, that means Aliens and Blade Runner 2049 are on the medal stand (in that order with the latter bumping off T2).
I am bitterly opposed. Harrisson Ford’s presence was an unnecessary disaster. If they removed his character from the movie it would be vastly improved.
respect it nonetheless.
Disco S5E7: everything is fucking broken.
Summary
Why does Starfleet give two shits about Moll and L’ak? You’ve already got all of the clues so far and a ship that can blurp anywhere instantly. Moll is so far out of the loop now that whatever knowledge she had is useless. Just hand Bonnie and Clyde back over to the Breen and go about your business. My God.
Why does the show want the audience to give two shits about Moll/L’ak? Like most other things on this show, whatever emotional angle the writers are gunning for is unearned.
And in this week’s installment of I Promise Starfleet Is Really Taking This Galaxy-Destroying Tech Plot Seriously Despite The Characters’ On-Screen Actions, it’s pretty much only Stamets and Adira (an ensign!) working on the next clue. Why is Stamets, an ostensibly superior officer to Tilly, having to ask pretty pretty please for her help when he could - and should - just order her to do it?
Once again, Rayner is the only one in the room talking sense and keeps getting put in timeout. Up until just a few episodes ago he was a worthy enough officer to have been entrusted with several Red Directive missions! What the fuck is wrong with you people?
I hate the future.
I still haven’t forced myself to watch E6, and now E7 has dropped. My plan was to stay current so that the time investment to catch-up was never more than one episode; obviously I am failing at that.
In a similar vein, I still have not been able to bring myself to watch Rise of Palpatine, despite Disney assaulting my eyeballs with it every time I log in to their app.
I have already cancelled my Paramount+ subscription, which will run out in mid-June. Long enough to get me to the end of the show, but the question is: will I watch it?
I have never watched an episode of Disco but following y’all’s hate watch of this season is fascinating.
You typed that with one eyebrow raised. Admit it.
That would be logical.
I’m really just a completionist at this point.
Star Wars (1977) was #7 on my list of the best movie of all time. Star Trek 2 was 5 stars (#194) but its not even close.
I’ve watched 6,500+ movies. #2 is Blade Runner, #6 is Godfather. #36 is Empire Strikes Back. #49 is Godfather 2. (4 stars is Blade Runner 2049.)
I watched Alien (also written and directed by Ridley Scott, 1979)), but Aliens is hands down my jam.
This is fun!
