The New CBA

No, exactly the opposite: I’m wondering if any clubs will try to weasel out of those obligations because the players weren’t under club supervision or something. I just have a very negative view of ownership right now.

I don’t think that’s a realisitc scenario.

Players reject the final proposal from the owners and they are pissed.

Players are saying that the “news” last night that both sides were moving closer to a deal was simply propaganda from the owners. The two biggest issues are the CBT (the owners didn’t budge at all) and the pool of money available for the pre-arb players. I believe the gap on the latter was $55MM.

Not to mention MLB getting losers like Bob Nightengale to make people think they made progress last night, only to frame today’s lack of progress as a reversal of tone on MLBPA’s part.

ETA - welp, beat me to it by seconds.

Manfred just announced at presser that first two series of regular season have been cancelled. For the Astros, that would be six home games against the Phillies and Yankees.

These guys are fighting really hard to make even hard core fans not give a damn any more.

I’ve been keeping U-Verse just to get the Astros. If they’re not going to be playing for a while, I may just accelerate the cord-cutting plan and then see what Fubo or somebody can do for me when these guys come to their senses.

Just to put this in perspective, most of the public isn’t aware negotiations are going on, much less that the season’s delayed. For that matter, I’m not sure that a lot of casual fans know that baseball starts in the spring.

Canceled my auto-renew on MLB.tv. Fuck if they’re gonna keep my money while actively shitting on the game.

Also, there seem to be a number of bot accounts posting this exact message, verbatim, on various press accounts:

It would be delicious if this sort of activity could be officially exposed as something MLB coordinated.

I wonder how many of those owners earned their money and how many inherited it.

Like me, for instance.

It’s about half.

And some that earned it, did with little effort.

I’m very much in this boat.

Me too. The only reason I have DirecTV is for Astros games. No Astros, no need for it. That’s pretty much all I watch, outside an occasional Netflix movie.

I’ve been a cord cutter for a couple of seasons. When there’s no Astros, I go down to the lowest acceptable DirecTV Stream package. During the season, I bump it up to the package with ATTSW. It used to be significantly cheaper than satellite DirecTV or Comcast, but it’s a lot more expensive than it used to be. Basically, you’re fucked either way.
