I’m disgusted by the way Biden has failed to handle Netanyahu’s psychopathic behavior but I’m aware enough to understand that Kamala is not Biden and I’m old enough to remember when Trump moved the embassy to Jerusalem extracting exactly nothing in return for the act of doing so which means everyone trying to use the appalling slaughter of innocents as a way to vote Trump into office needs to grow the fuck up. And, shut the fuck up, for the next few weeks, if you don’t mind.
She fully understands that my generation/age group has the majority of agency in the selection of candidates across the political spectrum across all levels of government. We both directly and indirectly apply that agency (funds, influence, experience) with much greater effectiveness than any other age demographic. More than any other age group, we chose these two candidates.
The fact that her own party did not think she was the most viable candidate even just a couple of months ago is a clue. And, from my kid, who will likely vote similarly to the vast majority of her generation, she said, “she does not inspire confidence. Her policy is inconsistent and shifting. Maybe she’ll grow into the job”. Being in the room hearing her friends talk, they readily ramble off names they would rather see as the candidate (like Buttigieg or Newsome or Whitmer).
I thought Harris did a good job as CA AG and has four years as VP so I don’t have a problem with her qualifications. I’m glad there doesn’t seem to be some false equivalence with Trump. I like Buttigieg a lot but before he joined Biden’s cabinet his highest office was Mayor of a mid-sized city. Having said that, the guy’s got chops and I would not be surprised to see him become President in 8 or 12 years.
We’ll never lose the EC. Not in a two party system.
One Republican in 32 years has won the popular vote. One. By three million votes. Trump lost the popular vote by SEVEN MILLION VOTES IN 2020 AND screamed about it being “stolen.”
I know, “take away California.” That’s the argument from the GOP. “One state isn’t representative of the nation.” OK, take away California and Trump lost by TWO MILLION VOTES.
I understand criticism of going to a popular vote - campaigns will focus on metro areas and rural areas will have no say. That was great when rural voters were relatively equal to urban voters. But the reality is that the eight most populous urban areas in the country have more residents than the whole of rural America. So we get a system where 4-5 states decide every election instead of 2-3 (which goes bye-bye when Texas finally flips blue in a few more cycles).
Statewide elections are decided by the statewide popular vote. Rural, urban, lock, stock the fucking lot. There is absolutely no justification for a national election not to be decided by the national popular vote.
Voters in rural states already get one senator per person, they don’t need any more thumbs on the scale.
It’s an example of how his second term will be run, now that all the “elitists and deep staters” are gone. Just privatize it, give it all out to rich buddies, cause, you know, they are rich and part of the club and they said they could easily do it.
Eminem has been announced as her special guest at her Detroit rally tonight. People are already speculating about who might be a special guest at her Houston rally…
