It’s not Donald’s fault. It’s all those stupid banks that agreed to lend him money.
In addition to the fact that my Net Worth is much greater than the number shown in the Financial Statements, there is a POWERFUL Disclaimer Clause (some call it a ‘non-reliance clause,’ others a ‘buyer beware clause’), BOLDLY STATED on pages 1 & 2, explaining that there should be no reliance placed on these Financial Statements, but instead everyone should do their own independent research, analysis, and due diligence."
This is basically the same shit that his lawyers tried in court yesterday, and got told to do one by Judge Engoron.
It would be nice if banks that participated in this stuff were subject to some investigation. If boards were aware of and approved loans based on this nonsense, they should be replaced.
Yep. Part of Trump’s defense was that the banks aren’t complaining so there’s no victim so there’s no fraud.
I don’t know what motivated the banks to lend to this clown, but I think know why they haven’t made a peep about this: they have everything to lose. It’s the old adage that says if you owe the bank a little money, you have a problem; if you owe the bank a lot of money, the bank has a problem. Trump is the latter.
If he was borrowing money against properties where he had inflated the value by as much as 2300% (not a typo), there is no way that he’s not massively upside down on those loans. The banks could foreclose but they’d get back pennies on the dollar, so better to roll the dice and see if Trump actually makes the payments (which he has been, apparently).
But now the New York State properties are all subject to liquidation (once the appeals process has been exhausted). Trump has moved and refinanced a lot of his businesses outside of New York in anticipation of this, but there’s still a lot stuff that’s physically in New York. Also, all those LLCs are to be taken over, so anything still in those are subject to liquidation too.
Elon Musk posted on X tonight that he has just fired the entire ‘Election Integrity Team’ at X.
This unit was created to identify threats from foreign and domestic sources by “posting or sharing content that may suppress participation, mislead people about when, where, and how to participate in a civic process, or lead to offline violence during an election.”
The actual House impeachment inquiry has started today, and it’s already as big of a shit show as you could have imagined, and then some.
The Dems are bludgeoning Chairman Comer over the head with the rule book, and he’s got nothing.
My favorite is that House general rules make it not permissible to shit-talk the sitting president; like, say, accusing him of crimes. Comer countered that this is an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, and Dems pointed out that it is, in fact, not that. An impeachment inquiry requires - per rules put in place after Trump’s first impeachment - that an inquiry can only be authorized by a full vote in the House, and that did not happen.
Comer is also blocking testimony by Giuliani and Parnas, upon who’s say-so this whole nonsense is based.
ETA: A just in case you thought that the witness made a genuine mistake and did actually leave out the word “Hunter” to save time - and not because she’s a bat-shit crazy, right-wing, racist loon - Krishnamoorthi has receipts from, of all places, her LinkedIn account.
The witness lists are out for the trial in the NYAG’s civil suit against Trump, which starts Monday. There are dozens of witnesses both for the plaintiff and for the defense, but it’s notable that the Trumps on the defense’s list are Donald, Donald Jr. and Eric. No Ivanka.
Ivanka’s attorneys filed a motion to have her removed from the suit, which was granted by the judge. Now, she shows up on the plaintiff’s witness list. She may not be getting any more “special hugs” from daddy.
Shocking, I tell you. Elon is a conservative/Donald Trump supporter, and he doesn’t care about the integrity of anything. As long as it makes him money or inflates his huge ego, that’s all he cares about.
The Dems on the committee all displayed iPads with a countdown clock to the shutdown. It’s been a thing they do now since Swallwell (I think) started it a few days ago.
