No doubt, they’re not even close to being the same. However, the core of the argument is that being on the LOS is inherently fraught with measurement difficulties for the officials, and they have always been cognizant of that and therefore lenient, until one of the biggest plays of the year. I think that’s behind most of the criticism.
I don’t think I ever even seen an offensive player line up so blatantly offsides. The controversy comes only from the success of the play and the fact that it was the Chiefs.
Are you somehow suggesting that the refs knew it was going to be a big play?
He was so obviously offsides, and didn’t check the ref to make sure he was good, which is a super common thing WRs do.
No, and I really don’t care about the call, just answering a question. But I still maintain if the call wasn’t made very few non-Buffalo fans would have given two shits about it.
ETA: the lack of caring about the call is equivalent to the lack of care people have about tackles repeatedly lining too far off the ball.
Yes, they don’t get out a ruler. But when a guy is a full yard beyond the line, it’s pretty obvious. And they had no idea how the play would turn out, so to suggest that the result of the play should have any bearing on whether or not the foul is called is ludicrous.
Y’all are misinterpreting my poor phrasing. The call happened on one of the biggest plays and that’s why it’s a thing. They obviously had no idea of the play result when they threw the flag.
I get the impression that Toney isn’t big on details.
And tackles lining up in the backfield is another thing that probably ought to be enforced more strictly, but that would just lead to more punishment for quarterbacks, so I can understand why the league isn’t a real stickler on that one.
Earlier this year, they started a campaign to enforce the early drop step just before the snap, but it seemed short-lived. Likely for the reason you gave.
Yes but I went blind.
Who’ll get called for holding this series?
From what I’ve seen, refs are 1 for 5 calling it on the Browns OL
…and Ward, Nelson and Greenard are all now questionable to come back
Both of these teams have backup quarterbacks. One team looks like it has some idea what it’s doing, the other looks completely lost.
Hopefully the people that sit near Hudson at the Texans games are as interested in the history of the Dakotas as we are.
The defense is gonna have to score at least three more touchdowns.
I’d like to hear the reasoning behind not having Singletary cover Amari Cooper no matter where he lines up
Flacco is still better than half the starting QBs in the NFL.
Browns see this as a practice game.
As a starting NFL QB, Case Keenum is a hell of an extra QB Coach.
Without Stroud, this is a really, really bad team. This is a serious beat down.
