The decision wasn’t stupid. Blame the play call and the Texans offensive line for not being able to generate enough push to get one yard, but even if Fairbairn makes the 46-yard field goal, the Bills had more than a minute to still beat you with a touchdown. I’ll trust my offense to get one yard and ice the game every time in that scenario.
He’s the head coach and play caller, so if he was going QB sneak, it was a stupid decision. Kick the FG or let your freak QB roll out, but running him into the line is just the latest in BOB’s long, long line of game mismanagement.
I agree completely that the QB sneak was idiotic. However, the decision of going for it in that situation was not.
I also firmly believe the Texans win in spite of O’Brien, so I would love to see him fired. I mentally checked out of the game after watching that shit show of a first half, then listening on the radio as De’Andre Carter failed to kneel in the end zone on the opening kickoff of the second half. I was beyond surprised when they were in position to win the game late in the fourth quarter.
This is the crux of the issue. QB sneak was never going to work; you either run a more likely successful play, or you kick the FG. BOB managed the thread the needle between successful outcomes and create OT.
No argument from me here. When the Bills had one of the most creative offensive series I’ve seen in the NFL on the opening drive of the game, I wished O’Brien was taking notes. Then, he wasted a timeout by challenging PI on Hopkins was that was never going to be overturned.
He’s the reason I have no confidence in this team to make a deep run in the playoffs.
While I am enjoying - more than I should - the Ravens eating a heaped helping of shit, I am also concerned that the Titans might actually win it all this year.
The Texans have to beat the Chiefs tomorrow to bring the Titans here for the AFC championship game.
