Lance pitched one inning, hbp and 2 ground outs and a lineout.
What do you suppose he’ll do next year?
Nominated.
It looked like Lance changed his throwing motion up some. It seemed to be more of a short arm approach than it was in the past.
Any updates on Yordan (thumb) or Dezenzo (face)? Hoping both are fine.
Yordan is in the lineup today so I’m assuming he’s fine
No, this is not a replay of his error from last night:
Ho hum, another Cam Smith HR
Not great news for Garcia.
The Astros really need to take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror when it comes to rehabbing players. This type of stuff has gone way beyond coincidence and into incompetence at this point. How many times have they set a timeline and the timeline was even close to correct? I’d probably scrap the whole department and bring in new people
Yep. What a shame.
Are they the only team that has pitcher injuries?
One successful arm injury recovery was Verlander. He took some heat from fans for not being around the team and kind of going through his own rehabilitation process. Maybe there was a reason for that? I have no clue and won’t pretend to know.
I’d have to see some data on the Astros vs other teams before I drew any hard and fast conclusions.
It’s frustrating as hell though, especially since Houston is one of the medical capitals of the world.
No, but when was the last time a pitching injury went anywhere close to smooth?
That’s kind of the nature of pitching arm injuries. It’s not as easy a fix as it may sound.
The relevant question wouldn’t be how many injuries they have vs others, but how well they get their injured pitchers back on the mound. Do they have a worse track record of meeting expectations than other teams? I have no idea, like others have said, we’d need to see some numbers (which would be very tedious to compile).
But I’d bet the Astros are much more aware of where they stand vs the league than we are. If they need to make a change in rehab approach, they’d know before we do.
There are so many questions that go into this it’s just impossible to know anything from the outside looking in. Do they keep their pitchers healthy relative to other teams? When there are minor injuries (the kind that never become public), are they good at handling those before they get worse? If there are major injuries, are they more likely to recommend surgery vs rehab? Those are all questions that would really need answering before we can even address the instant question. And I got nothin’.
McCormick (1) and Pena (4) homered today in a 5-3 victory over the Cardinals. Framber pitched 5 innings for the win while giving up 3 hits and 3 runs. Luis Contreras pitched the ninth, walking one and striking out two to pick up the save.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking for Hall of Famer numbers, but I’m praying this is the year Peña starts to figure it out at the plate. Looks like he simplified his load which makes sense in terms of being a little quicker to the ball which might give him a little more time to wait and pick up spin.
