Leadoff single for Hernandez, his third hit of the night
I have a hard time believing that the umpiring we watch all too often is garden variety incompetence. Itās exceedingly difficult to win if the other team gets five strikes and you get one or if youāre lucky two.
Iāve been there twice: once in October and once in January.
Donāt go in January.
You can average 5 runs a night, but youāre not going anywhere if itās a square wave of shutouts and 10-run blowouts.
I really like Seattle too, and the times Iāve been there itās been 65 degrees without a cloud in the sky. As far as Iām concerned, itās never cloudy or rainy in Seattle.
Iāve been in February and it was fine. I think when we last went it was March, and it was also fine. Navin and Mrs Navin and I were there in June and, unsurprisingly, it was lovely.
That reminds me of the last time I was in San Francisco. I was coming home from a business trip to China, and my wife wanted me to pick up some Marlboros at the Duty Free store. They were out of the usual āduty freeā bags so they put them in a clear plastic bag, so everyone could see the cigs. This being San Francisco, I was the target of a lot of angry glares, so I rolled with it and found a place to get a big steak before my flight, made sure to eat it on the āpatioā section where I could see everyone passing by, and they could see me, with my cigarettes and my big-ass Porterhouse.
Had a lot of fun that day.
People smoke everywhere in San Francisco. They have a cigar bar there that I like. My problem with San Francisco is that when the temperature gets below 70 degrees people act like theyāre in fucking Antarctica in July.
Iāve been to Seattle in September, October, August, and April. It was always nice. The area is great for all kinds of recreation. Itās beautiful. However, they seemed to support the Seahawks and Huskies much more than the Mariners.
Topa seems to be having fun, 4 outs in 14 pitches so far
The October trip was very nice. Predictably overcast but not oppressively so.
The January trip it was 40 degrees and rained continuously.
It wasnāt a vacation so the weather was just a footnote.
We did have brief layovers there in June on an Alaska trip.
The weather was nice going and coming back. Great views of Rainier.
At one of the OWA opening day fests, I guess it was 2014, I was there with my visibly pregnant wife. Before the game I bought one of those giant $30 beers and we went walking around the concourse. There was a shop that sells game worn items that I wanted to enter, but there was a prominent No Food or Drinks sign. So I stationed my wife outside and handed her my 80 ounce beer knowing full well she would get all sorts of outraged looks, which is exactly what happened.
I emerge and she has a weird look on her face. Why is everyone glaring at me? she wanted to know.
To the 9thā¦2-0 Mariners
Sound hilarious, hope she laughed when you explained.
Nice to know in the bottom of the 9th our first three batters up are collectively 0 for the night so far.
As are the 5-9 hitters.
I havenāt been to San Francisco in 12 years, I used to go often. I am planning on being there for the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival this year.
Hoping the inner Hulk in those guys wakes up.
That sounds like fun
Donāt throw over to 1st.
Rodriguez could be a player I liked if he werenāt the single most colossal prick in organized ball.
