Season in jeopardy already?

With Fiers, I don’t think we need to limit ourselves to just one possibility.

Here’s the official plan for the 2020 postseason:

The Wild Card (best of 3) series will be played at the home field of the higher seeded team. Then they’ll move to bubbles for the LDS/LCS/WS.

In the SoCal bubble, LA and SD host the division (best of 5) series. SD will host the ALCS.

In the Texas bubble, the NL division series will take place at MMPUS and Arlington.

Both the NLCS and WS will be played in Arlington.

No days off during any series, which will be a clusterfuck. Each series will be preceded by at least one off day.

Right now, if the standings stay where they are, all three of the AL first round matchups (and one in the NL) would be between two teams in the same division. It’s pretty possible that all first round matchups are between division teams. Perhaps that was the plan all along.

Christ on a cracker, it might be best to go into a slump and sit this shitshow out. If the WS participant’s pitchers come out of it with their arms still attached, it’ll be a miracle.

Well, you might want to get used to 16 team post season going forward.

Fuck this shit.

Mediocre teams getting postseason berths is very on point for the modern MLB.

There’s money to be made after all.

The entire point of Major League Baseball, the only reason for its existence, is to make money. That goes double for the World Series.

I am shocked that the owners endorse the concept of making more money that they don’t have to share with the players.

The players have consistently rejected any ideas of sharing in the revenue, so…

I also suspect the 162 game marathon will go away.

It’ll be first half/ second half or somesuch, and the total number of games may go down as well to accommodate the more lucrative postseason.

1st half/2nd half winners is a terrible idea. The first half winner may be one of the worst teams in the division over the second half.

“You had me at ‘terrible idea’.”

They tried 1st half/2nd half winners in 1981, and the result in the NL was that even with an expanded postseason, neither the team with the best record or the team with the second best record made it in. It doesn’t get any worse than that shit-for-brains idea.

That was arranged after a mid season play stoppage. A much better result than in 94.

I would argue that it was worse result. And I sincerely hope they don’t make that shit show a regular feature.

Manfred could fuck up a wet dream.

The thing is, they like telling fan bases their team has a chance at postseason glory. Even if that team is mediocre. Especially if that team is mediocre. Butts in seats, eyeballs on TVs.

As you said above, it’s all about dollars, not determining the best team over 162 games.

I’m afraid it’s coming and franchises will be able to embrace mediocrity.

And the players need to be aware of the fact that if mediocre teams have a relatively equal shot at winning championships as the elite teams, then teams aren’t going to invest in the players they need in order to become elite. More money going to the owners, less to the players.
