Every so often I happily go down a Warren Zevon rabbit hole.
Thank you for sending me on my way there now.

Your mileage may vary wrt to the band, but Widespread Panic does (or did) an absolutely amazing live cover of “Lawyers, Guns and Money”
That was good.
And it got very Widespread toward the end.
Which one did you watch?
In my younger days those were great concerts to party at, and with their fans.
Live in Austin
My Shit’s Fucked Up.
Just had the other cover song that they absolutely wrecked pop into my head: The Guess Who’s “No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature”.
Thanks for that: Widespread Panic had sort of faded from my consciousness, but now I have my Sunday morning Spotify playlist.
I saw Widespread Panic at the Backyard about 20 years ago. I don’t think since I saw The Dead in the early 80s, had I been to a show that had so much pot smoking going on. Of course, I didn’t mind. There almost seemed to be some fog machine blowing out pot smoke. It was thick. It was everywhere.
So I played the Spotify playlist of their covers. There’s some really fun stuff on there, including an up-tempo version of the Band’s Ophelia and (much to my delighted surprise) David Bromberg’s Sharon.
I hope you wore your dancin’ shoes.
3rd cover that comes to mind, never saw them do this live, but Bowie’s “Heroes”
2003 iirc (pretty sure it’s the same 2 Halloween weekend shows that @AstrosFanInColorado found his video from) they were at the ACL Live venue, and the fans drank the place dry of Jack Daniels before the 2nd show started. They’re more of a boozey crowd, but of course there’s gonna be pot involved, among other things. Molly was fun.
The Backyard show was in 2008. Outdoor venues at night tend to accommodate certain activities more than indoor venues.

Back to lunar stuff: looks like we may be clouded over this evening.
Hopefully there’ll be a few breaks.
If cloud 9 gets in the way, you can blame it on me
If the cloud is pot smoke you can blame Widespread.
Also an apt description of the Tenacious D / String Cheese Incident show I saw at Waterloo Park about 20 years ago.
Upon further review…the eclipse will happen at 2:00 today, so we in North America will not get to see it. But we should see the full moon this evening.
I was there. Good times.
I was also at one of the early ACL Fests when String Cheese flew Pink Floyd’s inflatable pig over the crowd
Dan Patrick was probably there, too, and nobody would share a joint, and here we are today.
