Is Death Valley below sea level? If not, I thought there was somewhere around there that was.

It’s the lowest point in North America, some 280+ ft below sea level.

The lowest place in North America at -282 feet below sea level.

Somehow Hudson is always 30 seconds ahead of me.

He is way further than that ahead of me.

That’s what she said.

I thought the lowest point in North America was dojer stadium after the Houston Astros baseball club mopped the floor with the dojers’ whiny, self-absorbed, holier than thou, self-righteous, entitled each year asses in Game 7 of the 2017 World Series?

With tonight’s thunderstorm in Fresno, they have already broken the all time month of August rainfall record (for the 146 year reporting period). And the storm hasn’t even really started.

I’ve heard about raisins (which I don’t personally care about, but is massively important), what else in that Valley and that Region is susceptible to heavy rains?

The entire valley gets watered every day but through root-based irrigation. Rain falling on the fruit and nut trees may cause mold issues if it does indeed rain on and off thru Monday. They’ll need to watch that. For those not familiar with the San Joaquin Valley, it’s the most productive agricultural region in the world with the highest yields spanning many agricultural products from pistachios to almonds to strawberries to grapes and on and on.

iirc, almonds and pistachios (love both) are some of the most water-intensive crops on Earth.

How could a grower in that area, of those or anything else “watch for” and then counteract heavy rains?

I’m not all that familiar with Cali Ag, just Texas, so I’m very curious about this.

CA grows almost all the world’s supply of almonds because the growers drill for free water from the aquifer.

CA’s water regulations have always been a clusterfuck. See Town, China.

So, how’s the weather in Vegas? They closed Death Valley due to flooding.

Here in my little piece of coastal O.C. it was no big deal. We only got a little over an inch of rain and about 30 mph winds. The wind and rain were not coincident. We’ve actually had much worse Pacific winter storms, at least here.

Unusual for a hurricane, inland areas had it much worse.

Drowning in Death Valley would be a unique way to go.

Watch out for mud slides.

It’s been raining on and off all day today and yesterday, too. Usually it’s somewhere between a drizzle and a sprinkle, but occasionally and without warning it’ll decide to shift into torrential gear for fifteen minutes or so. I’ve seen incredible storms here, but they don’t last very long. I bet this weekend alone exceeds the annual average by some margin.
