Royals at Astros, 7/6/22

Stanek gets a tailor made 6-4-3

At the stretch, Astros trail 5-4

Sweet double play.

Bot 7:

Peña K swinging
Yordan grounds 3u
Bregman bounces 4-3

Boy was that a weak inning. Still 5-4

Top 8, Stanek still in

Benintendi lines a single to LF
Stanek whiffs Melendez on a 3-2 heater
Pasquantino bloop to RF, Benintendi stops at second
Dozier with a slow bouncer to short, only play is at first, runners advance
Isbel walks on four pitches, from Machete’s setup they were clearly pitching around him
Taylor punches out on 99 mph at his eyes

Mid 8, still 5-4

Bot 8:

Tucker fights to 3-2 but then pops to LCF
Diaz… exact same thing, but SS/LF
Meyers only goes 1-1 before popping to short RF

Pathetic last couple innings against a lousy bullpen. Still 5-4

Another Tuck up in right field and a IT’S A SHIFT! gift the Royals two 9th inning runs and counting.

Sometimes you just shit the bed. The Astros have shit the bed tonight

Top 9:

Neris in
First pitch bouncer for a 6-3
Lopez lines one to RF, Tucker breaks the wrong way and gets turned around, it’s over his head for a ground rule double
Merrifeld flies to RF, Lopez tests Tucker’s arm and makes it
Benintendi doubles to CF, Lopez scores. 6-4 Royals
Melendez singles to CF, Benintendi scores. 7-4 Royals

This is entirely on the graphics department for putting up “6 straight scoreless outings” on Neris’s stat line

Pasquantino drives one to the RF track but Tucker makes this catch.

Last chance - Royals up 7-4

Looks like we’re going to have to modify this Dubón never strikes out narrative.

Bot 9:

Chas K swinging
Dusty, clearly committed to the night off for Altuve and Gurriel, chooses to PH with Matejevic
JJ singles up the middle
Dubón K swinging. Rough night. Lot of that going around.
Peña grounds 6-3

Your final: Royals 7, Astros 4

It is such an irrelevant point - but JJ looks to me to bring a real bat to the team - and yet Dusty neither gives him time at 1B or in the OF - continuing to play Chas or Dubon in the outfield or Alemdys at 1B over him. Mystified on this one.

A real bat…with a hole in it. He may have some skills, and may become a good hitter, but right now he’s a strikeout looking for a place to happen. I realize he needs ABs to develop, and he can fill in here and there, but this is not a team to be giving guys tryouts or a long rope. This is not a “let the kids play” kind of a team (and he ain’t exactly a youngster). It’s really not much of a mystery at all.
