Thoughts:
Players don’t get MLB salary or service time when on assignment to the minors.
By bringing him back to MLB before putying him on I.L. they are taking care of him in those 2 areas.
Also, if he was injured in MLB then there would likely to be a grievance if he was then put on minor league I.L.
Depends on contract. On split contracts, no they don’t. But on full Major League contracts they do. All salary is guaranteed. Teng signed a 1-year, fully guaranteed contract, so he gets paid the same whether he’s in the Big Leagues, the minor leagues, or even if they just cut him loose.

My understanding was that he gets MLB min when on 26 man but a minor league salary if optioned.
I thought that pre-arb players all have split contracts.
Most do, but not all. I believe Teng is making Major League minimum, but all of it guaranteed.
