Rockets 2025-2026 (also general NBA and Spurs but fuck the Mavs)

I’m saying I expect a young inexperienced team to improve from one year to the next. I never said anything about what “They” raved about or something that happened in the NBA 30 years ago. But I get your point and don’t disagree.

Wemby seems to have the ‘it’ factor that superstars have.

The league is full of talented guys who put up big numbers, but very few superstars of this type.

He’ll get his go-to high percentage repertoire down (i.e. stop trying to do everything in every game).

Whether the rest of the team figures things out who knows. But they probably will.

Despite the weiner stomping they did in the finals I’m even more bitter the Rockets lost that lottery.

Well the Rockets ended up with Reed Sheppard so it all worked out.

The Rockets used up a franchise worth of draft lottery karma in getting Hakeem and Yao.

Then what were David Robinson, Tim Duncan and 5 titles worth in lottery karma?

Apparently, at least five blown Finals leads and a painful nut-crunching.

Yes, that’s an awful lot of lottery charm as well. Almost entirely a result of Duncan.

Wow…Michigan’s Dusty May is about to be the next HC of the Mavs

I wonder if his incoming recruiting class can still bail (not to mention the guys who were already there). And I wonder what the exit clauses look like for other coaches. I don’t think this is going to wind up like the usual game of musical chairs.

If a player signs (HS or transfer) with a team and their coach leaves during the same offseason they should absolutely be allowed out of whatever contract they’ve signed.

No idea how it works in reality though.

Maybe UM has an assistant that they’re really high on, for continuity purposes?

Players get a 15-day transfer window that opens exactly five days after the university publicly announces its new permanent head coach. If a permanent head coach isn’t named in 30 days, then the window opens.

I don’t know how many teams have openings available at this stage in the game either.

Also makes one wonder if May waited as long as he did in order to improve the chances that the new guy would get all or most of the current roster.

With the 31st pick in the draft, the Rockets select the 22nd rank guard, and 49th ranked player overall, Bruce Thornton. Can’t wait to see who they draft at 55.

An interesting thing happened with the Clippers second round pick. They drafted Narcisse Ngoy who was the MVP of the French second division league. Ngoy had signed to play at Auburn and had not entered the draft but because he was born in 2004 (fixed from 2024 typo), he was automatically eligible for the draft. He will still be eligible to play at Auburn this year and the Clippers will retain his draft rights until next year’s draft. They are calling this a draft and stash.
It reminds me of the old Draft and Follow back with the MLB draft had 40+ rounds. In those situations though it only applied to Juco kids not NCAA.

Under somewhat different rules, Larry Bird was drafted by the Celtics after his junior year. He returned to college for his senior season, and the Celtic retained their right to sign him. That’s probably where any similarity ends.
