Red Sox at Astros 8/3/22

Well, that was anticlimactic.

To Esch’s credit, he’s owning it and being a good sport about his gaffe.

Servais would be retaliating after that.

Verdugo HBP. Advances to 2nd on Arroyo’s 1-3 GO.

So you’re saying he’s no Craig Way?

Something weird must have happened to that ball, and I suppose topspin is as good an explanation as any. But how do you hit a ball that high and also put topspin on it?

“Swing up”?

Straight up.

Exactly. A severe uppercut swing will do it.

Let’s hope the bunt unlocked Tucker.

The BBGs are pleased, Kyle

Seems like the swing would have to so extreme that it would spend next to no time on the pitch path, and hitting the ball would be a near miracle. But hitting a ball was always a miracle for me anyway, so what do I know?

Ask Chas, he might know.

This actually is not hard to do. An uppercut often puts overspin on the ball.

Bagwell hit more crushed topspin liners than anyone I can recall

It’s my fault. I just turned the game on and I swear it was the first pitch I saw. My bad.

Oh, I completely get it on liners and such. Yordan has cost himself a few homers with topspin. But I was surprised that you could get topspin on a ball hit on a trajectory that high.

Urquidy bears down and Ks Devers to end the threat.

Glad Urquidy still is an Astro.
