Rangers @ Astros, April 16, 2023

Not ready to panick, but this ain’t it. It’s one thing to get beat but booting the ball around like they have been is completely unacceptable. Needs to turnaround right now. The division is not a punching bag anymore.

I’m not either, but look at the immediate schedule. It’s pretty daunting for a team playing well, much less a team playing like the Astros are right now. How this team fares over the next 21 games could very well decide the season. I know it is early, but if they don’t wake up, these next 21 games have the potential to put them in a deep hole.

I’m not pressing the panic button, but my hand is resting firmly on it.

The Michael Schwab character tweeted last night: the Astros record after 16 games has been 7-9 every year since 2020. I do not know if that’s correct, but it is too early to panic.

I’m hopeful that this is just the Astros being the Astros, playing a bit sloppily when they play lesser teams. Now they just need to follow through and play well against better teams.

I would not call the Rangers this year a “lesser team.” I think they have a solid lineup, decent pitching, and are very good.

The Astros’ record through 16 games in 2021 and 2022 was 7-9. The Astros record through 16 games in 2023 is 7-9. We are 2.5 games back in the west. There is a lot of baseball left to be played.

Jim also makes a very good point. The Rangers are a good team this year.

They are but it pissed me off how many times I heard ESPN announcers drop the bullshit about the Rangers having to play without Seager. I could only watch about half the game so maybe they talked about Stros have to play without Altuve, McCullers and Brantley…but I never heard it while I was watching.

Yes, that was very annoying. I used the Worrell button early on during the game.
