Yeah Bregman and Abreu are the exact same thing.
Bregman is better than you and Chuck give him credit for. Third basemen that play gold glove defense and regularly post OPS’s above .800 don’t grow on trees. Just because he isn’t Yordan Alvarez or Kyle Tucker offensively doesn’t mean he still isn’t an all-star caliber player.
Second, the Astros do not have a suitable internal replacement, so if they don’t either upgrade elsewhere with the money they would allocate to him or sign a comparable replacement, they are getting much worse.

Yeah, I just don’t think he’s the player you do. He’s replaceable, IMO.

I could see extending Bregman 3 years, four maybe, but he wants twice that.
If were a really cheap, team friendly deal, I’d maybe give him three. It’s nuts to give him a huge contract.

He turned 30 years old last month. I’d give him a five or six-year deal at a reasonable AAV. Eight years is too long.
Either way, Bregman plays gold glove-caliber defense at 3B, and has one full season in his career with an OPS below .800. He’s not an MVP-caliber player but an all-star-caliber one.
