Punishments are official

Carlos is the only one I’ve seen.

His breakdown was impressive from a memory standpoint.

Folks forget there are just 10 members from 2017 on this roster:
Yuli, Altuve, Correa, Bregman
Springer, Reddick
JV, Devo, Peacock, LMJ

So 5 position players, 2 of whom (Altuve/Josh) the data clearly shows and Correa confirmed did not use the system.

What did the guy who charted the games say about the WS?

He did not do the postseason games.

Predictably, none of the offended baseball media types chose to do that work either.

How could the Astros have heard a trash can bang during a home game at the World Series? The noise level was elevated for almost every at bat, and certainly was during the high leverage late-inning plate appearances. I recall having trouble hearing anything from my buddies who were sitting right next to me at the field level.

He did the ALDS home games and found no banging aside from a single bang in each game (probably false positives). It’s referenced in the ESPN story above. I don’t know why he didn’t do the LCS and WS.

Finally a baseball player says it “PED is worse than sign stealing”

As players started to fully understand the impact of PEDs on their careers, clean players became unsure who was friend or foe when it came to their job security. If you are clean, PEDs immediately put you on the downhill side of your career, and if you are already declining like I was in 2002, PEDs push you off a cliff.

Sign stealing does none of that.

Of course, sign stealing was wrong but this knocks some folks off their high horse.

Folks, there is nothing “wrong” with sign stealing. What was against a Commissioner-made rule was using a camera to do it AND telling the hitter in the same game.

That post should be required reading for the pearl-clutching crowd.

I think the phrase “sign stealing” is becoming shorthand for the way the Astros did it.

Maybe it is just me, but I’ve always felt that stealing was an inadequate and misleading word to describe intercepting and deciphering an encrypted transmission and then relaying the decoded message to a beneficiary.

I saw a former ballplayer discuss the issue. In one breath he outlined how bad the Astros scheme was. The next he said now if I’m coaching 3rd and you give your sign to me by being sloppy then yes I’m gonna take it.

There is a difference, but it isn’t as large as the howling would lead you to believe.

Which is exactly my problem with it.

Manfred said back in mid February that it should be wrapped up in the next couple weeks. I guess they are hoping people will just sort of forget about it.

That is exactly what they’re hoping.

Sale’s TJ surgery makes it a lost season for them so Manfred may do something now to pretend he has integrity.

Bad shit for Boston?

Wait…Federal Judge?

Reported by the Athletic here is the status of the Red Sox investigation.

“The Red Sox Investigation work is substantially complete, but the investigation remains open because Commissioner Manfred has not yet finalized or publicly released his conclusions as a result of the ongoing public health crisis,” Seeley wrote.

No doubt he would have shown the same reticence if the Astros investigation had just finished…errr…

Here is another view. Maybe they are bringing the hammer down and they have to decide suspensions and want to see what the season looks like before they suspend Cora, and front office. They may also want it to have maximum news coverage and not get hidden by everyone worrying about Covid-19.

April Fools!!!
