Punishments are official

Good for A.J.

Probably the worst of all this. It’s going to suck to see him benefitting a team other than the Astros.

An excerpt and brief commentary:

“Whether or not the Astros performed better because of their cheating is irrelevant; what matters is that they skirted the rules because they believed they would gain an advantage. They acted in bad faith even as they risked compromising the integrity of the sport and its contests. The concept of “tainting” is silly and all kinds of subjective, however, and the sign-stealing scandal will always be part of the Astros’ championship. If that’s an indicator, then yes, the title is tainted.”

Wish I was wrong…but I think the the Dusty for a year and AJ coming back is at a 0% chance. Crane completely fucked this up. SMH.

Now, I agee with you about this.

Manfred expects Red Sox ruling by Wednesday:

Why would people think that’s going to happen? Why would Hinch want to manage a bunch of players who blamed him for their behavior? Why would Crane bring him back after he said Hinch disobeyed him on this issue?

I think it’s just wishful thinking because everyone really likes Hinch.

Bingo.

He’s gone. We’re gonna have to get over it.

I’m trying, but it’s not that easy.

It’s gonna really suck when he is managing another team in 2021. I just hope he ends up in the NL. If the Rangers are smart and hire him I’m going to puke

I think we’re safe on that one. They just hired Woodward last season. They would have to crater and there’d probably have to be something scandalous in addition to lead to his ouster.

Just to be safe I hope an NL job opens up for him.

Btw, was the suspension retroactive to October or is the earliest date he could be hired Jan 2021?

Suspension ends the day after the 2020 World Series ends.

He’ll get hired within 3 days of that

If I was Crane I probably would have fired Hinch as well. It’s Luhnow who I would have tried to go to bat for.

Speaking of Luhnow, he is suing Crane for wages.

Talk about tone- deaf.

If Luhnow is able to successfully sue, sounds like the team/Crane has got some bad employment contracts. Getting suspended by the league and not able to do your job for a whole season kinda seems like it should be addressed in there for you as cause to terminate with no problem.

Back in the day, many front-office contracts were written with language that protected salaries in the event of labor stoppage, IIRC known as “personal services”-type contracts. If Luhnow’s was for service to Crane, then, barring cause, he must still be paid even if he is suspended. Of course, this should qualify as cause, but, typically, cause is very narrow (theft, etc).
