Log guy said he has heard accusations of other signaling methods (whistling, etc) but could not detect any. I think he was saying he tried but didn’t hear it, although maybe he was saying he didn’t bother.
Some comments made good points that no bang was a signal for FB. Better numbers would be % of at bats system was in use rather than % of pitches.
I still can’t get over the home road splits. Everybody who asks me about my take (only Astros fan most people know, living in NC) is very wide eyed when I point it out.
If you comb through the Log Guy’s twitter, he did an analysis of a game where some people claimed you can hear players whistling “charge” to signal the pitch. He found no correlation between the whistling and the pitch type in that game.
I kind of wonder if the hitters won’t be better. How many times have we shaken our heads at horrible, awful swings at pitches that should have been left alone? What if the sign-analysts were mistaken and told the hitter a FB was coming when it wasn’t?
Greinke had a couple of good games and was superb in WS Game Seven, but he was hardly a stud in Houston. Verlander is a year older. Cole and Miley are gone. I am certain I read McCullers will have tightly limited innings and likely will be in the pen at first. Urquidy? Peacock? Abreu? We’ll see. We needed a front line pitcher badly, but the team stood pat. Come on Whitley.
To go along with the graph that was put together this article has some quotes from Adams into his reasons for logging all this info.
“I was a little hesitant. I’m documenting my team cheating,” Adams told Yahoo Sports. “But in some ways, I wanted it to come from an Astros fan, so I knew it was honest.”
